Quotable narcissism.
What version of narcissism is acceptable to you? I've often pondered this question. Guilty of it myself, (IMHO any blogger, or ANYONE for that matter, has got a streak of self-adoration), I've often found it fleetingly sensitive to talk about. But obviously, there are cases where it can get on your nerves. Especially when it comes to the case of 'I said this fantastic line'.
Disclaimer: I'm about to talk about somethings that I myself have committed in the past, and I'd like to label these crimes. I don't know if I've repented, but I do know that for now, when I see instances of these happening around me, I get annoyed and feel like hitting the offender with a slate. Like BANG BANG BANG. Delete that line. Urgh. So. I'm sorry. If you're guilty of my so-defined crimes, please understand that in no way am I attempting to drive a stake through your heart. Over. Out.
1. I cannot tahan this one. You know how you receive mails from some people, and they sign off, putting some dotted line at the far end of the paragraph? The mail would go something like this:
Dear XXX,
XXXX YYYYY ZZZZZ,,,, bye bye and thank you for thinking that i'm the best also.
BR,
imsoinlovewithmyself

'everyone knows that i'm the best person in the world.'

Like WTF? That's like extending an already *#*@! pointless e-mail for the heck of extending the e-mail! Why lah go and say so many crappy things? And as if it's not annoying enough, there's a date to exemplify the importance of how fantastic your mind was working when that quote came to mind. Some even go as far as putting a freaking TIME to the quote. That's so clever, right? The historical moment of which the priceless line was composed has to be recorded. Well.
2. I've done this one before, so I'm pretty much an ex-criminal. And then, I saw it happening in a few places, and I found it quite annoying (although, it isn't quite as bad as crime number 1. This occurs in blogs. You know how some bloggers like to put a 'Quote of the Day' section at the side bar or underneath their banners? Well… it's ok if the quote comes from a famous person, or someone else, or maybe another blogger. BUT… this one can be quite an itchy business.
Quotable of the Day
They come but they can't find me. Because only I can find myself. *link*
Clicking on that particular link will then bring you to the original blog post of which that line was conceived. Uh. How ingenious. I've done this before, and after that Quote of the Day section was in existence for almost a month, I strutted into my site once, and suddenly, it stuck out like a sore thumb. It looked pretty menjijikkan so I threw the whole thing away, and cursed myself for ever doing it.
Anyway I have to say this: blogging in itself is such a fantastic method of self-gratifying self-expression, and the best thing about it is there are so many people who do it and are applauded for it. How else can freedom of speech be best expressed? But mind your quotes, it gets on my nerves. Does it matter to you? If you are, I urge you to remember the number one rule of thumb: you should not be offended, these views do not belong to you.
