Literary Discussions: Sleeping Beauty
I don't know about you but I think that Sleeping Beauty is one fucked up fairytale that doesn't exactly have any moral conscience. Plus it teaches kids a very wrong thingthings.
I'll fast forward to the evil part about the story (minus the jealous fairy godmother, and the sweet godmother who turned the dying spell into a sleeping one), I'll just talk about that part where after a hundred years the handsome prince climbs the princess's tower, sees the babe lying fast asleep on her humongous bed (I have a Ladybird Classic that makes the room look like a fantastic harem, more than a sweet princess's chambers), falls in love, kisses her and she wakes up bla bla…
Girls, I ask you, if you were sleeping soundly and suddenly some stranger kissed you and as you wake up profess to love you and ask you to marry him, what would the normal reaction be?
'Hiyakkkkkkk! Take that! Get the fuck out! Who the fuck are you!'
That's probably me.
Look, the whole resolution is just wrong wrong wrong. First of all, the prince walks into a place without knocking on the door. He goes in and sees the entire palace looking dead (everyone is sleeping). I would teach my children first, to knock on people's door and until you hear the 'Please come in,' wait. After a while, if no one answers, leave.
Secondly, don't enter any palace in the clearing, much less a palace where everyone looks dead! That's just too spooky a thing to do and I'm not about to subject any of my children to possible ghostly attacks.
Then, the prince just walks into the princess's chambers while she's sleeping. That's just… see what I'm trying to say here is, if some guy I don't know walks into MY room, I won't even give a fuck if he were Brad Pitt or Orlando Bloom (Yes, yes I like Orlando Bloom), that's just NOT RIGHT. And if he kisses me while I'm sleeping, I won't even give a damn. That's just the onset of a rape crime going on there. No way am I going to wake up, smile, and say, 'Oh I love you too, ' or some weird self-degrading line that many of those storybooks say, 'I've been seeing you in my dreams all these years, oh you've finally come.'
And yeah. Sleeping Beauty is one fucked up fairytale. Don't tell it to your kids because it condones the acceptance of sweets from strangers, and it tells little girls that its okay to smile to some paedophile wannabe who kisses them on foreheads and tell them I love you.

Chooks, you didn’t put my version in.
The one where I sock the prince in the face after he kisses me, then, when I realize he’s a HOT HUNK, I scramble off the bed, rushes to the mirror to tart myself up (specially with lip gloss for that extra-sexy pout), rush back to the bed, lay myself down in an ‘artistic’ pose, and then request the prince to do a repeat.
Kehh. Nyek nyek nyek nyek…

Aiyah… the thing is, hor, her deep sleep hor, macam coma lah I bet - she surely knew that something was wrong, lah - you think that, after years and years of sleep, she was just laying there zombified meh? No lor, otherwise the prince couldn’t get off on his whole quest of wish fulfillment and lonsense like that.

J

he’s not the paedophile, she’s the one who’s a whole 100yrs older.

I think the original version had a lot more going on than a kiss. It was supposed to teach the kids ‘the facts of life’.

After 100 years of sleep she first needs to take a shower, what was that prince thinking, he most probably examined her before the kiss!
