It’s not that I don’t give a damn

It's just that… why do we keep discussing ways to love our country best?

I mean we keep going on and on and on and on about this, and it keeps coming out again and again and again and again. So I'm here left wondering: gee, where do we actually stop to agree. Or disagree.

When will we realize that instead of, practising 'see I think you're malaysian but not as malaysian as I am' discussions over, well, 'you see ah, I love this country but well ah, I think ah, this ah, that ar…' better work hard at the present the current and the now and do the best that you can do for yourself RIGHT NOW.

I wouldn't call it selfish you know. I don't think its entirely wrong to be selfish, not in this case anyway. I mean, we keep wanting things and say smart things that make people like me even nod nod nod, then we promise the entire world (even coax ourselves into believe this shit), that you know, 'If you know, I get to do this, get to do that, I bet you know hoh, I will… bla bla bla.'

What blablablabla rubbish.

I mean, I may want to change the education system, I may want the NEP to be abolished, I may want to have freedom of religion, and I may want to have equal rights as be the next person, but…

Seriously, I-MAY-WANTS, if given to you, you sure you'll practise what you'll promise to do? You sure you won't get complacent? BTW, you sure you'll stop complaining and start focusing on now and living with what you have now?

You know what I think? I think we just ought to get back to life, focus on living life right now, making the best out of whatever we're getting right now, for THAT purpose (whatever your purpose is) before we turn the blogosphere into the local kopitiam and all of us into armchair politicians, paying only 80 sen for a cup of coffee and taking over the area for over 4 hours when the taukeh can very well have loads more customers and earn more money and *gasp* pay more taxes so that we can have better tarred roads.

You see I can be intellectual too, sometimes. My intelligence and concern EVEN surpasses my expectations. WOW.

But of course, if your purpose is to be just that (talk about politics and speak your minds just to prove a point), go ahead. I'm not about to stop you.

Just as long as you'll stop saying that, see, this girl, talk crap, doesn't really give a damn.

Which goes to prove a point of mine (a pretty pointless one), it's not that I don't give a damn, I do, I seriously do, but I prefer to think it better that I know I love my country in my way, and I don't have to go blasting out to the world in obscure bombastic phrases and lines how smart people like me seriously love my country in a cleverer way than you do.

When you're as patriotic and as intelligent as I am, you know why I don't like to talk about why I get a RM83.6k-a-month-salary but still don't want to come home to work.

The reality (IMHO) is, we're only as patriotic as whereever on earth we're born on allows us to be. You don't get this leh. In simpler terms, IN REALITY, I can keep telling the world that hey look here I'm seriously very very fugly, but if everyone else keeps saying I'm-a-babe, I can't help it.

Just like how I keep saying, minishorts doesn't stand for a set of short pants, they actually mean mini short stories, people still don't believe me. They keep asking me to turn up in minishorts (which I don't have).

If by, now, you still don't get this very smart and clever I'm-more-patriotic-than-you-are rant I suggest you get a brain transplant. And I won't donate mine. It's good enough for me.

Same reason I don't like to talk about the-very-important national issues in the country. Not because I'm not as clever as the biggie bloggers with those bigger-than-coconuts manberries (if you read me more often you know seriously I'm genius material). Not because I do work with the government (in education) sometimes and yes I get frustrated with the limitations I have to work around. But after such a short time in the system, I think, we have some pretty good limits, and the better person ought to learn how to live with the currents, or think about ways how to live AROUND the currents and still make the best out of things. Not merely complain and talk about 'how much better things will be if it were not like this'.

Also, because right now, with all her shortgivings, Malaysia is really good enough for me.

In other words…stop talking and complaining and start practicing what you preach…whatever you preach.

    Good point.

I am more Malaysian than you because I drive a 9 year old Proton Iswara that’s been in a major crash… that’s very Malaysian!

    Guys and girls,

Every so often in the blogosphere, a person will make a sensible and realistic post. Well said minishorts *applause*

The most important thing is that we, as responsible citizens, should make a our contribution in whatever way we can, to make our lives more meaningful and our neighbourhood / society / country a better place to live.

Actually getting the small things done would be so much more valuable than ranting about how things should be or shouldn’t be.

    cheers

what i was also trying to say is this:

so i’m a second class citizen, doesn’t mean i need to live out my life by second-class ideals. or do such second-class things such as rant rant rant and complain.

i mean, once in a while its ok lah, but SO MANY TIMES? even nodding too much makes my neck hurt from the muscle strain. might as well get back to work and see what i can do to, tweak the system a bit.

the problem is people like to pass batons and teach other people how to lead life right, like, ‘if i were the prime minister, i would do this this this.’

well the reality is, you’re not the prime minister, you’re here on earth (not necessarily malaysia) for a frigging reason, so now why don’t you go and kau tim that reason first, then maybe we can sit down over coffee (80 sen one will do) and talk politics.

you know why i don’t like to talk politics? because hell, i’m not a politician. that’s why.

forgive my simple mind, all i can deduce from this is that you think bloggers argue/complain/discuss for the sake of sounding clever. i can’t agree more that are many such people on bloghospere and usually they’re too quick on imposing their views ending up sounding dumb but of course they dunno lah. only the smart people know. so anyway, just wanna say some people talk/rant about politics n stuff cause they really think it’d make a difference. it’s not that they wanna NATO (but with ISA and stuff like the DOE murder kinda scary whey)just in case some big shot main google abit he/she can see the nation’s sentiment and hopefully make some changes. maybe im being idealistic but yeah, not everyone does it to sound cleverer-than-you.

  7. S-Kay Says:

Well…kimberly does have her point there. Most post just to have their own views on the subject matter to be viewed by others in hope to make a difference even if the chances of it making a difference would be like 1:1 000 000 or maybe more? It doesn’t matter how clever they sound or how dumb they sound because they have every right to do so (so long as they don’t get in trouble with the ISA with it lah)

The reason why we have Dewan Rakyat is for our respected representatives to debate over what should be done for the citizen in this country. So even if you’re no politician, you can talk politics…politics doesn’t only cover topics that has got to do with typical political arguments but also the welfare of the country. When we say welfare, it concerns us..people like Kimberly, people like you and me. If no one talks politics and rants about what should and shouldn’t be done, how else would the government know what should be improved and what should not if everyone keeps quiet because heck, they would prolly go “I’m no politician, why should I talk about politics” And why do they have political studies in the first place if normal people like us are not allowed to discuss politics. Do you think they send out online surveys to the people? It is not wrong to rant and to suggest so long as we have done our part as a Malaysian citizen.

  8. minishorts Says:

kim, s-kay: oh no lah. just someone asked me about how i feel about this whole thing, and why didn’t i speak up yada yada… and i felt like ranting.

does it make me any lesser if i choose not to jump on the bandwagon? i’m not saying those people don’t care, what i’m trying to say is, just because somme people like me choose to live around the corners doesn’t make us any lesser than the ones who speak up.

also i rant because ‘I CAN’, more than most people, because I did stpm, I went to a local uni, am doing my masters at another local uni, i got my ptptn loans (and i don’t have to pay back that one even though i’m chinese so go figure what happened) and i’m working on some projects with the MOE where the education syllabus seriously sucks. but they’re there anyway and seriously, those being implemented overseas MAY only look hell better for the laymen, but comparatively, what we have now, it’s just THE ONE that will accomodate all the other factors (pluralism, multiculturalism, and of course, the 80% majority who don’t really realize the importance of education as much as most people, and as much as, especially, bloggers).

i didn’t say its wrong to rant. this was a rant anyway. i’m saying its wrong to rant and stop at ranting. i mean, after ranting, do-lah something. too many rants make a person a whiner. now i’d rather be called a go-getter anytime of the day.

  9. S-Kay Says:

gosh…i almost got lost there with so many ‘rants’ in the last para =P

  10. minishorts Says:

s-kay: told you lor. when you rant too many times you become a whiner.

    SEE WHAT I MEAN?!

  11. ShaolinTiger Says:

Does it make me greater cos I push start the bandwagon :D
