For a minute
I'm sorry, this is my first day of work after a nice holiday on the beach and I still get idiots like 'Questionable' writing to me.
Now please forward your support to Ms Wileen Cheng (nice name, Wileen) at e-mail add: wileen_cheng[at]hotmail[dot]com.
Woops. Did I just send you spam? I'm sorry I'm not a responsible person. Neither do I have a conscience.
And this post will be passworded after, say, half a day?
this is whut your WORDS speak: you say "this site is directed at mature adults", and also it is stated in the newspaper "it is raunchy"
and your ACTIONS? :by allowing your blog to be published in a national newspaper, you're indirectly opening your blog to people of every walk. though publicity is a good thing, i can understand that. but bear in mind that, are you still going by the concept "this site is directed at mature adults"? even though it's everywhere in every page?
that's the question. see i really like the quote which says "actions speak louder than words". in this case, no matter how much you scream "this blog is only for mature adults", is it going to work, now that it's on national newspaper?
at the first place, if you really care bout the young being affected by your blog, your conscience should be telling you that putting up your blog address in a newspaper IS A CHOICE. you can actually choose NOT to put it up. publicity is good, but is exposing your thoughts to the young good? if you were more concern bout the young minds, you would have thought twice. therefore there's no excuse to it.
in fact, giving a higher priority to your blog's publicity rather than the minds of the young is selfish. you want your views and opinions to be expressed, but at the price of affecting the minds of the young? and you know, a mere line "this blog is only for mature adults" is not enough to keep the kids away.
Thank you Wileen. Your opinion is highly valued.
BTW, I had a sudden streak of genius and this came to my mind. You guys might as well go sue MPH, Kinokuniya or Borders for displaying those 'Sex for Life' books out in the open (unwrapped, sometimes), because you know, books that contain raunchy bits like 'this is how you spread your legs wide to invite, youknowyouknow' are ALL OUT THERE for KIDS TO READ and oooh my god, such information is FORBIDDEN. OH btw, if you DO read as well try banning Crichton and King off your children's reading list because… their characters fucking swear in their fictional exchanges.
Ignorance is bliss? Honey, I'm sorry but ignorance being bliss is idealistic, but that's not in my life-mantra.
I prefer to be shocked and informed, and Wileen, I never imagined that kids would be interested in such a text-heavy site.
Oh another add-on, yes I can accept that I'm not likeable, I can accept that you damn jeles or damn disgusted with my irresponsible behavior and everything else, BUT this thing I seriously cannot accept yeah. You wanna curse me stamp me kill me pretend to jerk off on me everything disgusting also I can take it. BUT you watch your stupid fingers and watch your mulut senget and TRY not to scold my parents and my boyfriend or my friends at the same time. And you know, TRY not to send death warnings too ok. I COULD TRY TO respect your wishes, I mean I seriously could, but when you hurl insults at my family, friends and loved ones or my penis-less life well, you just start to look like an ugly, jeles troll.

Yes it’s a personal opinion but regardless, we still have the choice of discrete “reporting” (from a blogger’s POV).
I have nothing against Wileen but please…Wileen, do you really think that filtering out or scrutinizing the contents of a personal blog is as effective as not saying the four-letter-word in front of your own kids?
In these day and age, to think that just by barring wadever is cruel and bad and foul about the outside world from our kids would be an effective way to screen wadever’s filling their young lil’ minds are plain and simply…naive. *Whew…that’s a long sentence*
Here…have a Bourbon.
*Ooops…sorry is that 18PL???*
Cheers

I think clowns are much much much more worse and 18SX!
What were they thinking? Giving blow jobs to long penis like looking ballons in front of all those kids?
July 1st, 2005 at 9:08 am
If that is the case, Wileen why dun you go and lamblast xiaxue who swear like shit in her blog and still got advertise in newspapers?
Take for example pop ups that appear on the computer for sex, the pop ups also state that ages below 18 only.. Yet the button to enter the page will still work for people that are below 18!
Willeen.. please think before you actually wrote a letter like this. i understand what you are trying to say but you have a very weak arguement.
*applause* to minishorts. Good reply you have there!

Condescending parents with a know-it-all tone are the worst people in the world.

Back with a bang eh? You were missed! So glad you and your rants are back! *hugs*

Stupid people can’t understand simple things like ‘choice’ and ‘responsibility’. They’re just venting their anger at you in order to cover up for their miserable failings as parents.
It’s because of people like them that we’re still stuck with dinosaurs like the Censorship Board.
July 1st, 2005 at 10:15 am
I pity those children.
I wonder what kind of upbringing thier children will get from thier parents….

Way to go, minishorts.
July 1st, 2005 at 11:53 am
Sigh when will people learn that censorsip does not solve anything, yes you can prevent people from accesing inappropriate materials but that will not stop them from trying which incidentally by slapping ‘no entry to minor’ is like a big advertising saying ’step right in explicit contents within’. What is more effective would be to make kids aware that there are such things in the real world and then guide them, explain the pro and cons of the subject and not shut them out until they get the wrong information. Seriously there will always be people with the ‘holier than thou’ or ‘I’m si saintly that others are all tainted’ syndrom.

I think you should stop using the statement of “you are just being jealous” when people criticize you because:
1.) they are not(90% of em)
2.) that pisses people off
July 1st, 2005 at 1:11 pm
The questionable comment shows bad logic, by arguing about “indirectly” and “conscience”. Does she know that one can eat a fish and that indirectly leads to hunger and starvation in another country? But we still eat anyway. Coz conscience knows better than to interupt our eating.
July 1st, 2005 at 1:17 pm
I’ll tend to the others in a minute, but CS is just so needing some bashing:
I just love to piss you off CS because I can just do a little wiggle and it pisses you off anyway.
And yes you are jeles. It’s so apparent. Now go and sit in a corner and sulk.
But wait. You’re doing that already. Awww… no pats on the back from me.
July 1st, 2005 at 2:14 pm
You know…I just realised that parents like to put the blame on others in terms of their children being badly influenced. Just because they don’t have the time to guide their children at home (because most damn kiasu…wanna get $$$ until they neglect their kids) doesn’t mean they can blame it on others when their kids turn out to be a bad apple. Stop blaming the source..look at yourself first before you speak. If you have already done your best to guide your kids but they still can’t differentiate good and bad then fair enough.
Maybe somebody should interview my parents regarding all these blogging issues.
July 1st, 2005 at 2:48 pm
I’m sorry I missed you guys out but here I am
S-kay: maybe you should go interview your parents and then post it? hehe my mum says blogging is cool but i must jaga my temper a bit. she says its ok to be angry and say fuck. because, ‘who doesn’t?’
viewtru: trust you to link blogging to eating.
kervin: just like there will always be ppl like me… and you. eh?
banana: thank you.
life_feel: no lah i don’t want to blame parents. as in I try not to blame parents. I think kids can still turn out ok.
sashi: yeah and the reason why the censorship board exists anyway.
FS: HUGS HUGS too!
Liz: you forgot a ‘who read blogs’ in that line. :mr green:
bittersweet: well… people will be people.
n305er: clowns eh? hahha try orang utans who eat bananas in public (woops)
bing: anyway i had a bad upbringing apparently. so i can’t blame her for trying to fix things.

I wonder what’s eating these people. Honestly, I just don’t get it. It’s like the WWW is so clean. Don’t they realise that if kids really want smut … then they won’t be reading blogs.
Do they have sexually deprived people just surfing the web and newspapers for something to gripe about?
BTW, what did you use to record the PPS B’day song, and where can I get it? The clarity is amazing … I would really want to get one … thanks
July 1st, 2005 at 3:37 pm
Should I feel honored that you actually dedicated ONE comment just to do some bashing on me? Awwww..
If you can’t handle criticism, then closed your comment box. Of course you can’t because there are some people who’s worshipping your blog and kissing your ass, but always remember there are some who’s trying put some sense into your head.
How much does your popularity worth anyway? Not much, at least not enough to get ANYONE jealous, really.
July 1st, 2005 at 3:47 pm
Yeah..I will one day during breakfast!
July 1st, 2005 at 3:55 pm
Mack: I mailed you already. Oh yeah go read lilian’s site too… there’s another post regarding the issue (again) and it’s going to be never ending on my side I guess.
CS: you’re very welcome.
S-kay: and blog about it!
July 1st, 2005 at 4:41 pm
*tsk tsk*
why so many arguments on this? anyway, they should probably know even if TheStar didn’t publish your address, anyone who knows how to use the internet would be able to find your site anyway.
do people honestly think that web addresses can only be obtained if you type the whole thingamajig on the address bar? don’t underestimate kids these days.
*la la la*

I think all these hoo-haa is intentionally targeted at you, minishorts.
It’s not your posts, not your contents. But perhaps, your popularity. Jealousy is what drives them to send u all those comments, hatemails and whatnots.
Worse still, they can’t understand what blogs are. We (us, bloggers) are not keeping our words and posts clean for the sake of anybody. It’s a matter of blogging style.
I’m not gonna put on a different mask when i blog. My style is pretty much the same off-, and on-line.
Blogs are just like TV channels. You have MTV, Channel V (for entertainment), CNN and Al-Jazeera (for news), HBO and Star Movies (for movies)… If you don’t like one, just go to another (channel). If you don’t like this blog, read another.
With all due respect to parents who find this blog too raunchy for their children, consider educating them about internet, first. And blogs, too. Oops, you don’t know much about blogs yourself. Then perhaps you, too, need to be educated on what blogs are all about.
Cheers and enjoy your weekend, everyone.

My argument is mainly focused on why minishorts should also be responsible too when it comes to opening up the eyes of the kids to vulgarity and obsenity. Of course there are other factors which I agree on (such as, lack of parental guide, lack of censorship.. etc)
Minishorts, why do you direct the blame on the bookstores and come up with that example? So yeah they’re doing the same thing as you’re doing, allow their obsene materials to be published to the public, and YOU want them to be blamed. Then, why direct the blame to the bookstores when you’re doing the exact same thing, and you don’t want to take the blame?
You can give me 100 examples of internet porn or bad movies, etc, but the point is still the same. The source is always responsible. Like, do you think porn site owners are right when they publish porn? Even YOU think writers of obsene materials in the bookstores are not doing the right thing. When kids watch porn, are parents and the media the only people we should blame? How about the owner of the porn site? Anyone with perfect sense knows this
Is it so hard to just realize that you’re responsible too?
Again it all comes down to attitude.
And I realize, you just can’t handle criticism. One little comment from CS and your reaction was like… wow! Bashing is good huh? That’s not very professional. I think you know it anyway. Besides, come out yourself and present your own defense, why do you need to rely on your fans for your defense? I don’t really read what your fans have wrote about me, my argument is directed at you, not them.
By the way, I just want to point out that, there are people who value things more than popularity, so don’t assume that everyone is jealous of you. Yeah there may be people who go wow over your blog, but not everyone.
July 4th, 2005 at 11:16 am
Hi Wileen:
thank you for being a wonderful fan who keeps on visiting my site. your opinions are very intelligent and personal indeed.
I’m happy that you finally realized that I cannot handle criticism.
August 13th, 2005 at 4:30 pm
I agree that questionable’s concern is most probably not due to jealousy. He/she is apparently concerned about minishorts’ responsibility over “raunchy” posts and its possible ramification on the young mind.
However, personally I can’t agree that she has to bear the responsibility over the influence of vulgar words on the young minds. Hey, blog is never the same as newspaper or other mass media, regardless of its popularity. Now we really have to differentiate between push and pull. It’s you, the reader, who decide what you want and what you avoid. Parents and teachers do have their roles to play too. In any case, don’t forget it’s the children THEMSELVES who decide to type http://www.minishorts.net and enter AFTER knowing the existence of this “sometimes raunchy” blog from the newspaper. And now if their parents are right to turn the blame to the author, we might as well consider the following cases:
1) Someone from Russia should sue all US presidential candidates who run their campaign in the public. Hey, capitalism is not good you know!! You all shouldn’t do that in public!!
2) Wikipedia should be demolished. It allows an article on Autof*ll*t*o (WARNING: adult content) to be published, and it’s public.
3) Titanic should not be aired in the cinema… Argghh! I am traumatized by the sinking scene and Jack who froze in the water!!
And oh ya, I am an adolescent. I am 19.
