More reasons why Malaysians should blog

Monday, July 11th, 2005 @ 11:25 am | Web-logger

Our National Day is also Blog Day!

Nir Ofir scribbled the numbers 3108 on a piece of paper and voila! It looked like the word Blog!

Actually I truncated his story… but what he believes is…

I believe that we bloggers have to have one day in the year which will be dedicated to know other bloggers, from other countries or areas of interests. I think, that not only that we need to know other bloggers; we need also to recommend about them to our Blog visitors.

More on his site.

Now what to do on Blog Day? Nir suggests

When I’m trying to see the end in mind, in this is day every blogger will post a recommendation of 5 new blogs (in the same time). In this day all Blog web surfers will find themselves leaping and discovering new, unknown blogs.

Would the idea take off?

I'm all for it… I mean if everyone reads only Jeff, TV, Kenny or even mini-me, life would be terribly boring and you'll end up having a skewed outlook of what Malaysians and Earthlings think.

So why not blog about the rest of the world?

There's even a wiki to discuss the programs.

Now go! Go!

 hey cool! ^__^ that’s more than one good enough reason!

There’s actually an international petition out to have June 14 declared as International Webloggers’ Day. The IWD button at the Tiger’s Den will take you to the relevant web page.

On the other hand, it would be super-cool to have a Malaysian Blog Day, and yes, I would support August 31 for the idea.

It *IS* boring reading you and Kenny all the time.

Fantastic idea. I am all for it. And make the 3108 logo available as download from your blog - to spread the news :)

this international webloggers day though is not official yet.

last year, it was on 9 june i think. and on both last year and this year, i organised a gathering for penang bloggers. you can read about it here:

it would be cool to start a malaysia webloggers day, and maybe even a bloggers club. maybe we in penang will look into it (bloggers club).

It’s a very good idea to recommend new bloggers to the blogging world. There are a lot of them out there who i as good as kenny, mini and others… and they are just behind thier shadow

My idea on the blog day is, maybe we can organize a huge gathering, and introduce blogging to the public. That would be great.

    Niro’s plans are like these:

Every blogger will post a recommendation of 5 new blogs (in the same time). In this day all Blog web surfers will find themselves leaping and discovering new, unknown blogs.

I’m doing that in the Bedtime Stories as well as the Fab Females / Marv Males series… now what else are you doing? We don’t have to wait till August 31st to start contributing.

I think Blog Day is different from International Weblogger’s Day.

  13. simon Says:

    minishorts, cool idea. i’m in.

  14. lionel Says:

Oh ok. At least they’ve specified what to do on 3108day. Here was my take on the so-called “International Webloggers Day” idea last year: http://lionel.blogs.com.my/2004/06/international_w.html

  15. Louyau net Says:

Clever idea to put 3108 into ”Blog” … and should the number has its any significant meaning relatively … it shall pointed out that the ”Blogger Day ” shall collide with ”Merdeka Day” (31 August )

    P/S: the moment when i typed ”Merdeka Day” … I cannot believe that i A-C-T-U-A-L-L-Y remember the date ?! Ooooo … M-A-G-I-C

So in another case, we’ll be blogging about freedom of being a blogger coinciding with the celebration of being free from foreign power. Interesting. :)

Now, all I need to do is setup that Merdeka Blogger project.
