life, love, *motherhood, and then more
Oh but you’re just too harsh
We sometimes take with us the most narcissistic, self-appraising side of ourselves to help build our confidences, to the point that they tower so astonishingly high, it becomes quite nauseating to behold. After a while, with the glorious evidences of our own mightier-than-thou, 'I-ate-salt-more-than-you-eat-rice' attitudes, we (unknowingly) bestow our poor peers (and readers) with our so-called-wiser-than-yours-sight.
The result is a battle of of the wits where both sides keep argueing that 'I'm a better person than you are a human being', which sums up into quite a pointless thing, indeed.
Then we start to question each other things like this, 'What have you done to change the world today?'
Rather than acknowledge that the simple act of bending over to pick up a piece of stray paper from the ground IS ALSO an act of charity, we instead, begin to compare, comment, criticize. The louder and more proficient ones will cleverly point it out to you, 'Sure, that's an effort, but sorry lah, that's just not good enough.'
But when will it be good enough? Who said we were born perfect?
So minus the broken thoughts, minus the random ramblings, and (try to) minus the pretentious tones of the excited outbursts that usually become me (though many new people think not), don't let's compete, don't let's compare, don't let's criticize, and don't, don't, don't let's (blog)-bash.
Even if we they annoy you, and even if we they disgust you, and even if we they make you jeles (couldn't resist this one), why can't you, you know, just leave them be and admit that all there is to us them is that we they contribute to that wonderful cauldron of variety beans? Come on. Give us them a break, will you?
I like to bitch a lot. But so what?
It doesn't mean that when I talk about my boring sandals my jeles haters my adoring minions my life and everything else that annoys you, I'm going to make Malaysia go to hell. I'm sure you're more accomodating than that. Or if not, I think you just haven't grown up.
Oh please excuse me.
But before I end this incoherent post, which should send T-Boy into scratching his head again (an example in point, when it comes to my rants I never quite know wtf am I typing about so it is seriously pointless to analyse what I'm saying), I should like to bring your attention to two Malaysian bloggers who're participating in the up and coming Blogathon 2005.
Edrei, a personal friend who's ever at loggerheads with me because I never think like he does, also because according to him I'm more fortunate than most people (unlike him), and quite unkind because of that. As much as I condemn the hilarity of this I must say its quite amazing that he keeps doing the blogathon thing…at least, I don't think I have the stamina to stay up for 24 hours at one go to blog 48 posts. I'll probably bore you to death with the crappy crap I write. But there, he's doing it for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia so even if his melancholia can reduce you to outraged bursts of anger, try to look beyond all that and see the drive in his mission.
And Yvonne, very young, full of zest and quite remarkably big in her own little small ways. Eden Handicap Service Center isn't quite as big and organization, but it still needs your help right away. I can imagine that for Yvonne, who has incurable neurofibromatosis, staying up for 24 hours at one go just to submit two posts an hour is quite a feat. I know the healthy me with the strong bones and good spine just can't survive going for more than 15 hours without at least half-an-hour-of-shut-eye in between. Nah-ah.
Now what about society and what you can do to show that you care? The smallest things count, in my opinion. Or even if you choose to live your life happily and as happily as you can, you're contributing. And I do think if you blog you're contributing, really. Already. Hell, I don't care if you blog about your new shoes or your new boyfriend or today's favourite song or how War of the Worlds was a complete waste of time, it doesn't mean you're a statistic in the list of worthless citizens who don't give a damn.
I think even all that is admirable already.
You don't even have to blog about how man is betraying God's Word and God's blessings to be an active citizen and God-fearing man. You don't even have to blog about which government to elect makes you a better thinking intellect who cares about negaraku.
I'm a very simple-minded person usually, especially pertaining to cases like this. Sometimes, I think providing your own kids a complete and balanced diet, coupled with a solid education of 'living life right' are within themselves, contributions to Society Earth's careless (and perhaps hopeless) future.
Although sometimes, yes, sometimes, it's quite worth it to walk that extra inch.
If you're wondering what you're going to do, I suggest you support the bloggers who're participating in the blogathon.
Add on:
I didn't read up enough. Ed told me about Dustyhawk, who's blogathon-ing for Unicef. Now how fast can I do a follow-up when I didn't really read up on him? I'm going to do a cut and paste. Please forgive me.
the main reason why serge has chosen UNICEF is because of what has happened since the tsunami and other major event which has left children abandoned, homeless and starving. another reason is that serge loves children a lot and would like to see them growing up strong both in nutrion and in mental health. Ranting sarcasm and taking that post personally aside for reasons that elude me. There is also one more Malaysian doing the Blogathon.
Dustyhawk will be blogging to raise funds for Unicef which is also a commendable cause.
