Things they teach kids these days

Jul 22, 2005 in Story-teller

Am working yes I am. But I keep seeing this all over one of the chapters and excuse me but maybe being 20-something, all screwed up and all that has messed up my mind. But here is what I'm dealing with at work now:

This particular chapter aims to teach children how to pronounce words that start with the initial 'b' sound and how to spell the numbers 1-5 in their word forms. The content provides the following rubric (instruction in teaching terms):

Read a story about Ben and learn the following words, phrases and simple sentences:
boy, Ben, books, balls, bananas, Ben and bananas, Ben is in bed

I'm not sure how the word 'bananas' got into the picture. Ideally in an introductory chapter, children should not be given a polysyllabic word that sticks out like a sore thumb amongst its monosyllabic friends. 'boy', 'books', 'balls' and 'bananas'. Where on earth did 'bananas' come from?

There's a song for singing at one of the chapter.

One book, two books, three books, four.
One ball, two balls, three balls, four.
One banana, two bananas, three bananas, four.

OK this isn't nearly as bad. In part of the chapter there's this other section about questions and answers and a few new words are introduced to the child. The Teacher's Guide provides help to teachers and this is what part of it says:

Encourage pupils to respond to questions. Examples:
Ben has two balls in his box. How many balls does Ben have in his box?
Why is Ben looking at the bananas?
Did Ben eat the bananas?

The Activity sheet looks quite dodgy too. Check this out.

Listen and repeat the following.
Ben and his ball.
Ben kicks his ball.
Up, up, up.
Down, down, down.
Ben kicks the ball
Up, up, up.
It is in the tree.
Ben kicks the ball.
Up, up, up.
Down, down, down.
Ben kicks the ball.
Down, down, down.
It is in the box.

OK. That, my friends, is what I do at work. Read things like that.

Stupid rhymes

Jul 21, 2005 in Story-teller

You know whenever I get too much on my plate at work I go bonkers and that's when the stupid Bedtime Stories will suffer. OK not the bedtime stories.

But remember that stupid song about the hundred green bottles, sitting on a wall?

Yeah I've just had enough of it. I was telling my colleague just now, and she gave me this.

A hundred dynamites, sitting on the wall,
A hundred dynamites, sitting on the wall,
And if one dynamite should accidentally fall,
There'll be no more f*ing dynamites, sitting on the wall.

Right. Then I thought of something else… blame the work please.

A million spermatozoa sitting in a ball,
A million spermatozoa sitting in a ball,
And if two brassiere straps should accidentally fall,
There'll be no spermatozoa sitting in the ball.

Blah. I've got more, but will keep them for another day.

Morons ‘R Us

Jul 21, 2005 in Web-logger

Here we go.

BLOGGERS ARE MORONS

Suanie failed to tell you the reason why we chose the word 'moron'. Actually she didn't tell me either, so I just decided it's because of this.

Bloggers Are My Official Rioting Orgasmic Nehneh-s.

This of course quite coincides with the fact that blogging (along with its off-shoots of commenting, trolling, linking, blabbing, gossiping, blogliticking etc etc) is also mental masturbation. Now since we're rioting nehnehs jumping around the place screaming hear-me-hear-me in orgasmic highs, about time we got down to business and did something more meaningful than just erm, cuss, swear, and bitch and whine and whatever… yeah?

So OK lor. I blogged about the blogathoners before and now I'm jumping on the bandwagon. Because Suanie asked me to.

Oh but you've got to hate love the team who's on this whole bloggers-are-morons blogathon thing, in Alphabetical Order, besides me, they are:

1) Kennysia, big coconuts this guy, who's working on the buttons like right now, so that you can post them up and help promo the cause.
2) Paul Tan, the fella who has SO MUCH information on cars wah lau I oso dunno where he dig up all those things.
3) Peter Tan, with the rock star hair and the guy who wrote that infamous post of the 'Bloggers are morons' fame and the not-so-notorious member of the Fab Four.
4) Shaolin Tiger, the angmo Malaysian who has learnt to call negaraku his own home and truly really behaves more Malaysian than many many more of us with warganegara-labels on our ICs.

and of course

5) Suanie-girl the woman who dragged me into the picture who desperately needs a boyfriend and will french kiss you if you donate USD100 who called all of us and decided it's time we did something good with our powers combined.

Now we're doing this for 24 hours at a go , and what's required is (at least) 48 posts in the midst of all that, and while we do that, it is of course anticipated that the readers who read those posts will be pledging some money (in USD mind you). The money is not for me to keep you silly, it's for a good cause, and the charity that will get that cash is The Hospice-At-Home Programme (Penang branch), part of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia. You can call them if you don't believe me.

While you're reading the things that we will be posting, or while you're waiting till the day comes (that's two weeks from now aye), you should like run over to this place now. Click on the banner will ya:

That's the official banner localized and designed by Edrei, a pioneer in all this blogging for 24-hours business, and who is, also blogathoning in aid of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia.

Now when you go there you should just register with the site and pledge the amount that you're going to send to us. Here. Lemme help you a little. CLICK! That link is for you to sign up.
