Updates, and some other things
I have a few things that I need to do this week, and I'm blogging them down so that I won't forget.
1) I haven't been researching for good blogs for a while… I had that list of Fabulous Females and Marvellous Males Part Trois waiting to be posted and then somewhere along the way (when I shifted cubicles at the office) I lost the entire post. Hmmm… later folks, some good people to rec., later.
2) I forgot my promise to Lionel (site not available for now). His blog is down. Oh Lionel, try Wordpress already? There's another site called weblogs.us where you just might be able to get free hosting. The catch is this: you might just need to buy your own domain (1)… (2) I didn't read up on the rest so you have to get there to find out more. Or peeps, if you miss Lionel as much as I do, please tell him where he can get a free blogging domain that runs on Movable Type… the picky fella he, the picky fella. Hmmm… well, that mail was Jul 18, and here is part of what Lionel wants to tell you guys
Alas, when it comes to blog migration, I'm dirt poor and will only resort to free hosting, but at the same time I'm incredibly picky. Movabletype support, ample space (for a future podcast project), no host-owned ads. So unless someone offers to host me out of goodwill or something, I'll be up and about again when I can bootstrap myself out of my rut. To be frank I have no experience in buying a domain just yet.
I'm a terrible mail-replier… I'm sorry folks… it's the work, it's the blog, it's the blogathon, it's the boyfriend, it's the mother… GAH… forget it… it's me… but anyway. I MISSED LIONEL, he's like one of those very very rare Malaysian bloggers who can string English words together in a totally stylistic and 'Whoa' way and I miss people like that. OK. Tariq, you're not too bad yourself. So anyway, Lionel's link is official dead for now. Folks.
3) I feel like killing Viewtru for dragging me into a review of a screenplay, something which is absolutely NOT my forte, not that other things are my forte anyway… oh FARK! OK you'll have to wait for a bit there's just too many things on the desk right now (53 scripts to proof-read and I've only completed half of that and the deadline is, gasp gasp gasp, the deadline is a 'was' right now). Oh dear. Now gimme some time, and I'll get to it. Today, I hope.
4) Stupid car's in the workshop. I tagged along with the boyfriend to work and arrived at the office 1/2 an hour ahead of time. The thing about going to the office in the bf's car is I have to arrive earlier, and leave later. Not a very good deal, but what the heck, I get to do more things…
5) Oh, I will STILL be blogging at the BAM site, mind you… we've got plans coming up and the content plan looks set to be QUITE interesting. Like Wow. Things you never expect to do, yeah? BTW, Galvin did some fantastic job heal-brushing away the pimples and bumps on my face… now folks, I never said I had flawless skin and I sorta have a love-hate relationship with make-up. BTW, did you know I did a 'how to put on make-up' Girl Talk series at the BAM site? That is oh-so-not-me. Oh well. AH yeah, you can still pledge. We've got over USD 1.3k right now, but hahaha, you think we can breach 1.5 k by the time the pledging deadline falls (around 6 a.m. Malaysian time, tomorrow)? I'm ever hopeful.
Did I ramble a lot today? Oh I'm sorry. OK. Back to work. Tatas.

Cheers.

Busy eh? I know the feeling!
I agree, Lionel should definitely try Wordpress…although I’m still trying to figure the damn thing out…

Hahah, you could always take him in on your domain.
I’m using Movable Type myself, and tumpang-ing on my friend’s domain (lah.com.my). Virtual hitchhiking, the way to go for cheapskates like me!
Of course, lionel.minishorts.com would sound a bit… erm… gay. But if he doesn’t mind people imagining him in short shorts, it’d work I guess.

http://forevergeek.com/geek_resources/dreamhost_hosting_for_9.php
dreamhost usually offers one of the cheapest plan while being a reliable host. Especially if you manage to grab hold of one of their crazy discounts.
Free hosting isn’t that hard actually. BUT. to have MT, officially speaking… THAT needs money. you need to pay for a MT liscence.
anyway, maybe he can talk about how much space he’s looking at??
give WP a try. EASY migration. better anti-comment spam

“BUT. to have MT, officially speaking… THAT needs money. you need to pay for a MT liscence.”
Nope, there’s a completely free license for Movable Type. And 3.2 has better spam protection (including a junk folder) than anything out there.

minishorts:
Ooo, I disappear so you forget about me lah. Thanks minishorts, as well as everyone else with every iota of concern for me!Actually I *have* checked out weblogs.us. In that email I sent you I said “I’ve been researching free hosting services. I may have found what I need, but it isn’t open for signups for an indefinite time.” That was it, weblogs.us. However, because I asked nicely, they were nice to me — I got an exclusive early signup.
And here’s the product.
TedFox: to have MT, officially speaking… THAT needs money. you need to pay for a MT liscence.
Yeah, that’s the reason weblogs.us is no longer fully supporting MT usage. Dang.
I like MT because it allows an experienced user like me to completely customize my blog head to toe. All that power in my hands!!! Wahhh!!! (I admit I didn’t do much because I was lazy..)
Other things I don’t like about WP are:
- no simple export/backup function!
- it messes with my writing! It does! It changes plain quotes into smart quotes and triple dots into ellipses… aarghh. I hate it.
- no simple export/backup function! Important!
But I think I’ll give in. Even Sashi gave in (although kennysia and itchyhands, many others perhaps, haven’t). I better start learning the ropes to get my manic customization back. Man…
dinghy “lionel.minishorts.com”: Very funny.

man…tyres…get your car Continental or Michelins…damn power grip.

Anil: but if i wanted to go round hosting MT… I’d need a license? It’s not as if i’m devoting an entire hosting plan for lionel’s single use of MT.
Lionel: But hey! there are plugins that stop the changing of what you type. and plugins that do clean export (including in MT format) and WP allows all kinds of customisation too, albeit in a different manner. think u’ll have fun. enjoy!
