Sometimes the messages are hidden
And then that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Just a while back someone remarked that my blog was far too personal, and with the kind of outreach I enjoy (enjoy!) I ought to reconsider my role in society (my role!) and talk about issues that matter, not things like popping cherries and worried mothers and the types of foods I take at the weekend.
As if it really mattered, what I think.
So I don't talk about squatgate, I don't talk about shaved bald men, or misuse of political power, I don't directly talk about international political uproar and violations of freedom of speech… and my blog is all about the delusions of a 20-something year old who is worried that she will never get married, or that she'll end up with the wrong guy for life. Oh, she also turns into a devil once a month and has this knack of blaming everything on hormonal influctions and other nonsensical crap, and she also does the occasional belly-flopping stance, and always, always, puts her foot in her own mouth. Damn you want to hate her, but you come here anyway, and you want to see what else has minishorts got to say today, because you need a bit of puke-inducing stimulus to enable you to appreciate the down sides of life.
But at the end of the day, sure, I'll admit it, I'm shallow, it's all crap, it seems like it matters, but really it doesn't. The truth is, I'm a coward, I don't quite like to take the bull by its horns direct. So it seems like I dribble, I repeat my issues, I fall down, I talk about how I feel when I fall down, and when the world starts to fight over insensitive cartoons, I tell you about how offended I felt when people told me a festive dish is 'yuck yuck yuck'.
I don't seem very objective (but tell me something, dear, have you ever met anyone who is really, 100% objective?)… and damn, where the heck are her concerns for the things that matter, like human rights and freedom rights and religious rights (wait, I talk about religious rights sometimes)… like, doesn't she actually care about the world?
Well you know what? I don't know, haha. You tell me if I'm someone who cares, and if under all these cumbersome talk of shopping choices and male-female divides and generation gap experiences, minishorts really doesn't give a damn about the world.

“Just a while back someone remarked that my blog was far too personal”
Someone actually said that to you? I believe that there are different types of blogs (personal, technology, political .. etc) and I think saying “Minishorts.net has too many stuff about her personal life” is like saying “Engadget.com has too many articles about gadgets”.
I still don’t get the “If you are famous, you need to set a role/contribute positively/etc to society”. I think many will disagree with me saying that if you have a voice that is heard by many, make your voice count. Your opinions and what you blog about is your’s alone, no one can ask you to blog about something that you don’t want to.

That’s the way we want Minishorts to be :)!
There are billions of blogs out there talking about politics and the world, Minishorts is unique for the way she drags you [screaming and tugging] into her mind.
Keep it up!! Don’t ever change the way you blog!

“minishorts really doesn’t give a damn about the world.”
Errr, I think she does, otherwise why on earth would she even bother to blog this!

hurrah for, erm, shallow-ism!
February 7th, 2006 at 10:26 am

If everybody writes about the same thing, then reading blogs will become a really boring hobby.

The day minishorts tries to blog like Jeff Ooi will be the day I start blogging like XX.
but please don’t take me up on that offer though
February 7th, 2006 at 1:02 pm
I love XX !!!!

sometimes shallow is more fun…. do I make any sense here?
February 7th, 2006 at 2:55 pm
kenny: it’s not only about being more fun… it’s because sometimes, if you choose to talk about things that make your head go bang, you forget that little details that don’t seem to matter at all, can actually help that bang in the head go away too…

‘Just a while back someone remarked that my blog was far too personal’
And you didn’t laugh in their face?
Shame on you!
Yoong Wie: ‘I still don’t get the “If you are famous, you need to set a role/contribute positively/etc to society”.’
Doesn’t matter if someone is femes or not. Everyone is a role model. but I agree, it’s Minishorts blog, her decision, if someone doesnt’ like it, they can go read someone elses blog.
***
I get tired of the ‘everyone should blog like Jeff Ooi’ thing, because if I want to read someone like Jeff Ooi, I go to his blog. If everyone blogged like him, there would be no diversity, no distinction and the blog world would become a rather homogenous, bland part of life.
I visit over thirty blogs everyday, and each has it’s own distinct personality, and to reiterate the advice I keep giving people about their blogs, is write about what you want, and the audience will come.
If someone has a problem with the content, then they need to go to a blog site that has that content.
Let’s face it, if TV was to only have News or A Current Affair shows then we’d probably switch off. but it caters to all sorts, the same way as blogs do.
So … next time someone comes and tells you your blog is far too personal, just laugh at them.
[Unless it's me, cause you know I'd be kidding, ... oh wait, now my comment is way too personal!]

I was looking for some naked pictures of minishorts but I can’t find any. Maybe I missed the link or sumthin’.

The way you blog is what keeps people coming back to your site. Minishorts won’t be Minishorts if she doesn’t do some Minishorting.
Hmm, you’ve said a lot of what I can identify with too…and I guess letting people see themselves in your writing is also another part of good blogging.

i like reading your blog… that’s all that matters to me.
and i really like the new colors!

A blog is a webjournal. You blog the way you want it to, not how others do.
Minishorts wouldn’t be minishorts if she blogged any other style. ^_^
