I know in Australia there isn’t anything constitutional which guarantees it. It’s just assumed we have it (though we don’t have a guarantee of it).

Anyway, back to the issue at hand. Just because someone disagrees with you, or says something offensive to you, doesn’t mean they’ve misused their freedom of speech (unless they have done something particularly illegal, like Slander, liable etc etc).

If they have said something illegal, you can chose to ignore it, or chose to sue them.

BUT, like the story goes,

A man who once heard about how at peace Buddha was, decidd to test him. So, he went and found Buddha and started to abuse him.
Buddha didn’t react. The man eventually got tired of abusing Buddha and asked him, ‘Why haven’t you reacted to all the abuse I’ve heaped on you?’
Buddha replied, ‘If a man offers another mane a gift, and they refuse it, who does the gift belong to?’
The man replied, ‘It still belongs to the giver.’
‘And that is why’, said Buddha. ‘I have refused to accept your abuse.’

So, if someone offends you, don’t accept it.

More likely than not, freedom of speech is an ideal (who would be like Rousseau who defended the right of the anotherr to speak something he detested?)…I think, in the end, freedom of speech needs to be managed and tempered with the ethics and limits of that right and freedom in mind.

Being to prove you’re right doesn’t always solve a problem. We live with billions of other people in this planet and sometime others could see things differently. So we why don’t we just make peace with each other and try to co-exist in peace and harmony?

The point has been made. Can we please bloody well move on with life and concentrate on other issues? =.=
