The Hakka Mee Trip

On Tuesday we went to Seremban for Hakka Mee. Eric wanted to impress my mother, I think. He'd been raving about the yummy noodles for months, and finally he managed to persuade Mum to tag along with us.

It was a holiday and I had to drag myself out of bed at 7 am just so we'll be able to reach Seremban early enough to avoid the crowd.

took us one hour to reach this thing
We arrived at the biggest market in Seremban at around 8.20 am. I bloody hate markets, especially wet ones. You walk in fresh and clean, go past the fish and chicken stalls, and you end up smelling like you haven't taken a bath for ages.

The Tow Kee Hakka Mee stall was on the second floor. The Hakka Mee looks COMPLETELY different from the ones we have in KL.
awesome hakka mee

Eric had TWO bowls of the thing! That oughta tell you how nice the hakka mee is. See I don't really like Hakka Mee, but this one calls for 1 hour journeys all the way from KL beginning 7.30 am in the morning. It's not really spectacular, but it's different, and tastes quite 'cheng-tim' (Cantonese for light and sweet).
so yummy Eric had TWO of these

Then we noticed that besides a bowl of Hakka Mee on every table there, the patrons were also tucking into a bowl of Lai Fan. Mum decided to test it out.
Lai Fan

Mixing up the noodles in the soya sauce.
OMG the spoon is bigger than the bowl!!!

Done, and ready for the eating.
looks a bit like lou shu fan

It was great! Tasted a bit like Lou Shu Fan, but I think this is less oily.

Both the Hakka Mee and the Lai Fan are non-halal.

I was around the same place about the same time/dime:
I APologise I was bee-sy watching “aliens” gulping down my hometown fave foods, so did not say “Hello!”
Sext time You call before visiting and I’ll intro yee to Mantin fishHEAD curry — mayhaps your Sig Other o’lady knows which IS — as you travel old road from Ru Rong to KL, enter the town, first row of shops on the RIGHT, the only Chines coffee shop in the middle — serves good porridge for mousey writers like Desi2!
Glad you’re promo small town like FR — many foreigners think this is the Peyton Place of Malaysia — so cunt go knoti-knotti!:)

One hour journey. It better be good. Else i doubt Eric would be coming out from the wet market without smelling like a dead chicken.

It does look nice though. I’m beginning to miss Malaysian food. :(

OMG! You were at the Seramban wet market and you didn’t have the BEEF NOODLES??!! SACRILEGE!!!! >.

I love standing among the vegetable stalls. The earthen smell emanating from the greens is very invigorating.

You didn’t take the Beef Noodle??? That’s even more famous than the Hakka Mee in the market! (The real famous Hakka mee is actually opposite the market, and behind May Bank).

Did you try the Squid Bee Hun?? Oh my… that’s one hour trip wasted :/

  7. minishorts Says:

Hey, I went to a nice Hakka Mee restaurant in Tropicana area…looks exactly like the one in the pix…if interested, can tell u exactly where…it taste good also :)

Oh so you don’t take beef… well, its alright then. Try the squid bee hoon with “extra” and you might like it. Next time try to stay around dinner time, and then go to Siukamit (duno how to spell the name of that area) to try to Fish Head noodle. All my friends voted that place as one of the best :P

There is another famous Hakka mee stall in Seremban. Turn into Seremban at the Senawang toll. Turn right at the first traffic lights and go straight until you reach a row of shophouses on the left. Inside the coffeeshop at the furthest end is a stall manned by Ah Chong or something. Mmmm… best Hakka mee this side of town. Only open after 3pm though….

wow i;ve never tried Hakka Mee before. never even heard of it. the former seems a bit plain, but hawker food is always like that: plain but full of taste.

Well, even if you don’t eat beef, this is for the benefit of the others. There’s this ngau lam dun, I’m not sure of her stall number, but she’s somewhere near 747. Her name’s Mrs. Sing. Its on the right side of the right most staircase. BTW, my uncle sells veges at stall 63 downstairs. Its not as dirty as most markets are downstairs
