i found out the other night that an old friend of mine from high school converted to christianity. born-again brimstone at first, she told me, but she toned it down when her sister pointed out that she sounded like those fundamentalist nuts. i myself don't believe in god and find the bible to be interesting but useless. i have great difficulty having any kind of conversation with a very religious person my age because they have not developed much of a personality outside of their belief system in most cases.

it's not the difference in language that prevents communication. it's the ontological hierarchies and moral code that permeate their speech that prevents me from interfacing with them. i can communicate with pretty much anyone as long as there is some wiggle-room. the old friend is just getting into the whole christianity thing so i'm sure it'll become easier to talk to her when she eases into it or abandons it.. i don't have much hope for her abandoning it, though, because when people get into that they become addicted. quite often for life. i have my own addictions that often make me miserable but what's most important for me is fluidity.

plus, she doesn't laugh at my twisted humor and play along with the spectacle anymore. ah well.

Or how Autumn is just another way of winding down and realizing just how catatonically brain dead you are in the cold.

minishorts -- thanks for your guidance in this response to MENJ's Apologies, which some quarters said were qualified, but it's Okay by Desi.

I'm inclined to go along your path and believe I can make a decision by COB today May 24 at 7pm to post up an Update to my Penultimate Update to announce a "Happy Conclusion". I'm following the footsteps on several blogosphere frens like Howsy -- take a hiatus. It's been taxing, stresing but learning lesson. I don't wish to look forward to a repeat performance. If it does happen, others pls carry the torch:(

PeAce to All, including MENJ; Thanks again to Minishorts&Mei esp.

Thanks for bringing up the story initially.

The apology is meaningless if menj doesn't open his mind, as of now I believe he actually shut his door and move towards more extreme.. and next time when he got some critical thinking he probably he won't blog about it, and we will have no chance to create understanding.

The reason you've probably never heard of me before this is probably because today makes it the 93rd day of my blogsphere presence.

Glad to see your world back on track!

Phew...Glad that the whole storm has been reasonably resolved. Well done, Minishorts.

Sincerely hope that MENJ learns from this and comes to see the 'light' of civil decency and respect for others, not waging holy war against 'infidels', but by the strength of his faith in his religion, and with the knowledge of his fintitude before the Infinite, be firstly humble. Lastly, may he not forget that the golden age of Islamic civilisation that he looks back to for inspiration was built upon the respect of differences, a principled openness to others while holding firm to the true principles of beliefs - not the letter of the law, but the spirit of law.
