I've found that the best way to deal with them is to not pander to their tantrums, and ignore them as much as I can. Sometimes it is attention they seek, more than anything else.

But one characteristic I've found is that they insist they are the only ones that are right - a rather typical characteristic of conversatives, in my opinion. Okay, maybe a very broad generalization, but that's from my own experience. More liberal minded people can agree to disagree on something - conservatives generally don't, and insist on ensuring their point of view prevail, and everyone else must agree - differing opinions are simply unthinkable.

Oh well, in the final analysis, there will be all kinds of people you'll come across at one time or another - some tolerable, some not - it's the difference in people we meet that makes life interesting sometimes. ;)

@Googoo
IMHO, quite a number of religions are pretty tolerant, although there will always be fanatics in every religion.

It's interesting to see you recasting the question of determinism and free-will. Sartre's ideas definitely form / influence much of current thought and beliefs.

Fundamentalism? we generally subscribe to a degree of fundamentalism... whether we are away of it for not... perhaps, a better term would be 'orthodoxy'.

Fortunately Christians are quite tolerant of other religions. We all want blonde hair, white skin (like minishorts), pretty face, long hair, cute butt and a firm tummy but some of us just didn't get them. God was somewhat selective.

I really like this post. Your reflection is quite impressive. You asked some fundamental questions.

But are you sure that tolerance is the solution ?

The tolerating choice is kinda inactive but it's a choice.

A very interesting post though.
