  3. suanie Says:

Maybe to all. Because too little or too much of something is never a good thing.

Googoo: you sure you got the message right? The Chief Reverend was relating an incident when he was in the hospital when a Christian nurse, not knowing who he was came and prayed with him. He followed the nurse’s prayer with an Amen. Later she apologised and the Chief told her she need not apologise. So, erm where is the ’some religion don’t like other religion’ in related to the incident part?

  6. walski69 Says:

Hmmm… to answer each one would take up lots of your comment space. But I guess a concise answer would be a definite maybe to most… it all depends on degree, and therefore quite subjective. But let me try to answer them all, anyway.

Globalization is inevitable, and it’s no more a matter of debating good or bad.

Religion, freedom of speech, philosophical thinking, rules, money, blogging, knowledge, science are all good things - PROVIDED we always remember that we don’t live in a vacuum and that our actions have an impact on others.

Gender equality should be a no-brainer given… unfortunately there are too many no-brainers out there who think otherwise. God, IMHO, did not create one gender to be subservient to the other.

Sex, the action, is DEFINITELY a good thing… (Walski has some hidden hedonistic tendencies, but we won’t get into that here… heh-heh).

This would be one of the very few NO’s in my answer - our education system totally SUCKS. It is many years out of sync with the rest of the civilized world, and is in dire need of a major overhaul. The way is always there… what’s really lacking is the will.

Ideal solutions are frequently neither. What may be ideal, may not be always be a solution, and vice versa. So this one gets a big fat maybe. But the problem is that we frequently jump on the bandwagon of expedient solutions, which is usually a BAD thing.

The Internet is definitely a good thing - it has made the world a whole lot smaller, with a lot less boundaries. What’s NOT good is the inability to cope with this reality - there are way too many control freaks out there is all levels of society and government.

A great voice is a prerequisite for non-annoying karaoke… otherwise, it’s a nice to have, so yeah, it’s a good thing. But not having a great voice isn’t necessarily a bad thing either (unless when it comes to karaoke… then, PLEASE don’t).

Your own housing (landed, or apartment) is definitely a good thing. Especially if you want to have some sort of relationship, which is a good thing, too, but not being in one isn’t necessarily bad either. If being single means being alone, then, no, not good. But if being single means you still have a group of people you care deeply about, then that’s fine and dandy. But in any case, having your own space is very important in either situation.

We need government, but one that’s non-intrusive to our personal lives. And the best way to keep government honest is through having an opposition.

Being poor is NOT good. But neither is being extremely rich. Being wretchedly poor, in many cases, makes one fatalistic about life, and being wretchedly rich makes one forget you don’t live in a vacuum. So, that probably makes them NO on both counts. Being born into money is okay, provided you were also born with a soul.

Finding the answers to ALL of life’s questions is an impossibility, but leans more on the NOT good… life would be boring if there weren’t any more mysteries to it. But on the other extreme, being ignorant is DEFINITELY not good. The ideal is the continuous pursuit of knowledge, making it a raison d’etre - the more you learn, the more you want to know… (at least that’s true for yours truly).

Not having a university education is difficult, not necessarily bad. Especially in today’s environment where too much importance is given to paper qualifications. Not having a university education doesn’t mean one is ignorant - I’ve seen enough ignorant U-grads to come to that conclusion.

Being married to a powerful man’s child usually leads to unhappiness… in many cases unintentionally. It’s always a case of trying to meet someone elses expectations that does it.

Migrating out of necessity is never a good thing - but sometimes we’re left with no other choice… trust me, I’ve thought of getting outta here many times… still do occassionally. If things really get bad, maybe I might have to…

But as bad as things may get, ending it all is never the answer… despite the fact that some people just don’t care (which is a bad thing).

So there… I’ve ended up writing an essay instead… ;)

Bless your heart minishorts… u sure know how to squeeze those thoughts out….

  7. Googoo Says:

Suanie: But why did he laugh about saying Amen? Perhaps in his religion he doesn’t really agree with it? There were others off camera who were also laughing about saying Amen.

  8. Kurt Says:

Do Magic 8-Ball answers count? :P

  9. Dabido (Teflon) Says:

Googoo - Amen is sexist. They should say Aperson! :-)

Minishorts - All these questions are like a red rag to a bull for me. I can write essays on all of them … but I won’t! lol

I don’t think your site can handle a Multi-Dabido session. [Yes, add that term to the wiktionary!] :-)

I’ll just say, ‘Yes’, ‘No’, ‘Maybe’ with qualifiers for all questions. :-)

  10. 9393 Says:

Say all ‘NO” live in a remote mountain and become a hermit

  11. suanie Says:

Googoo: I can’t say for sure why he laughed, but I would presume he found the incident a bit funny. Cute even, maybe. Having heard the Chief Reverend delivered a speech before, I can say this is how he normally talked, with a note of humour injected in most subjects, esp when dealing with people.

Trust me, the Chief Reverend was not dissing Christianity :) He spent 57 years working towards uniting the different races in M’sia, preaching religious tolerance, preaching multi-culturism as a good positive thing etc.

Anyway the man just died, respek.

  12. suanie Says:

besides, I guess one of the lessons he was trying to deliver in the interview above was that, if other people have good intentions for you, then it’s a good thing, it’s a good service to you, regardless of your and their religious backgrounds. Discard the labels, realise what their hearts are saying.

I apologise if I come across as rather anal about the whole thing :) I couldn’t respect the Chief Reverend more, and his passing is still lingering in my mind.

  13. spot Says:

Umm..yeah, what Suanie said in comment 12.

I think the last thing you’d hear from a true buddhist is a diss against other religions.

    I’m not one, btw.

-Yes. Blogs, friends, communication. I’m ignoring the bad stuffs.

    28) Do you think that not-caring or choosing to ‘bo-chap’ is a good thing? -Depends on what issue it is again. If it won’t ever affect you (directly or indirectly), just don’t burden yourself.

    29) Do you think that migrating out is a good thing?
-I dislike home sometimes, but I still love it. Until something really bad happens only will I leave.

    30) Do you think that ending it all is a good thing?
    -Ending what?

  15. Elaine Says:

Too much of anything is a bad thing. Period. But then again, as humans, we never really learn the art of moderation..:P
