Who is the inconsiderate one?
Quote:
I did not realise it but there are less than 7 days left to the end of Ramadhan. How quickly time flies by, and it is sad to see the Holy Month end. I've managed to get through the month without any backbiting, alhamdulillah, and may this ibaadah be accepted by God.
Someone thinks he has not been backbiting. Shall we reconsider (almost all) the posts that has happened in the past few days that has, well, intrigued and pushed me into this daily analysis of 'anti-muhibbah' religious nitpicking?
Immediately after saying that he has passed the entire month without backbiting, he says this.
However, some inconsiderate bloggers (particularly the one who writes mini shorts) are testing the limits of my patience in the fasting month.
Well. You tell me, friends.
Oh but pardon me, but are you telling me that because it is Ramadhan, and because you are fasting, therefore you are entitled to diss my religion, the belief of other people, and call people who do not share your version of Islam, 'liberal heretics?'
If that has been so, then I am gladly inconsiderate.
I've always been told that Ramadhan is a time of religious consideration, a time where Muslims have to rethink their values and inward struggle in the walk with God. I may not believe in your teachings, but I respect it all the same.
If you think I have been inconsiderate, than may I continue in this tirade of inconsideration by saying this to you, sir:
I've always understood Islam to be a religion of peace. But in recent years, the behaviours demonstrated by some of its followers have been nothing but detrimental to its cause and teachings. When you first started the blog, I saw it as a blessing, someone who was on a noble mission, to rectify the all the slander and destructive comments that Islam has had to suffer. A brave Muslim, who chooses to use God's gift of the gab into doing something constructive. Ideally, all the blogs you have commissioned have noble intentions, and your behaviour, if exemplary, should be replicated in the contents of your blog, for all to see, as a proof of what 'True Islam' is all about.
In particularly so, during Ramadhan, I've seen my Muslim friends going into the true spirit of fasting, and I've been humbled by the meaning of fasting so much that I've told myself that next Lent (read up on what it is before you blaspheme on Lent by the way) I too will try to make a religious Oath.
But I want to say this, if a true Muslim's version of practising patience has been exemplified in YOUR blog for this entire month, than I'm very sad, MENJ. I'm very, very sad. Because I know that many people have been hurt by all the things you've said about us, and these 'many people' do not constitute kaffirs alone.
So I will be extraordinarily clear here, if you think my job is to tarnish the image of Islam, then you are very wrong. What have I been doing here? I just want to give an opportunity to Muslims in this country who have had much to suffer from over-outspoken people like MENJ to have their piece. With the freedom of speech I have exercised on this blog, I want to show the rest of the world, that my Malaysia, a secular state with Islam as its official religion, allows me to speak up on behalf of my people, and the people who share my beliefs. With all the misunderstandings in the world with regards to 'people who have been suffering in Islam-driven states', I want them to know, that these misconceptions are unfounded. That while there are the MENJs of the world, and there are the Walskis and the Noorhidayats. And I am thankful we have friends like this.
Having said that, I sincerely pray that God blesses you MENJ, and that He may give you the Grace and understanding to listen to Him clearly. I understand that you need the blessings more than all of us.
Inconsiderately yours,
Minishorts

Well said… it’s people like him who give Islam a bad name…

I think I know the guy… wasn’t he the one who chickened out from crashing the plane into WTC few years back? Wasn’t he?…

Bless you, girl, for putting my feelings so clearly in your blog.
I read MENJ too and the fascinating thing is how he just doesn’t see his shortcomings, his pathetic attempts at representing Islam.
I have many good Muslim friends around me who reinforce my faith in
the goodness of mankind - eventually.
Let’s pray for this ‘blinded’ boy. Amen!

aiyar..just don’t care about the fella lar. Waste our time talking about him…..
I only visit his (menj’s) site when you linked him other than that, i don’t see any point in visiting it…i rather go toilet and poo poo..better hor?

LOL, Alvin and I have the same thoughts.
People are like him (not Alvin, BTW) aren’t really worth two cents, but just let God do what He likes with him.
Besides… if God wanted us to worship Him in only one way, why did He create curiosity and allowed us to think?
People like that brat over there never think about this, yet they call themselves intellectual. Then again, many prostitute their intellect for money, so it’s no surprise, is it?

The saddest (or most amusing) thing about Taliban Menj is he’s oblivious to his own contradictions, double standards, & hypocrisy. He’ll spare no expense in criticizing and insulting other religions but then whenever the response comes, he’ll bitch about them “not knowing their place” & “interfering with Islam”. For someone to proclaim his piousness & superiority of his faith by lambasting other religions only shows an innate inferiority complex within this person. Why oh why if you claim your religion to be the “True Path”, must you expend countless effort and blogspace to insult other religions (with illogical ‘evidence’) and stuff like joint celebrations?
October 19th, 2006 at 9:49 pm
I don’t think it’s about religion - it’s the amusement he gets from our reactions to his “arguments”, and the delight in taking our “counter-arguments” apart piece by piece.

He is exactly the kind of bigot we don’t need here in Malaysia. Unfortunately for us, there are too many of them here in Malaysia. It’s very sad really, that they refuse to come out of their coconut shell, living in their own personal mystery.

Menj I know u r gonna see this.
U are truly an arrogant and ignorant person (no, i’m not gonna say muslim, cuz i see a lot of good muslims around and i’m not gonna group u to them lest their good names spoiled). Whoever u are or whatever u do, u are prone to b an extremist. I dun think any religion will make u an extremist, but ur arrogant thoughts will.
U are the one who keeps saying liberal but u dun dare to post up my comment. U want everything posted there suits ur taste. Ok that’s fine but that will only prove that U are a coward. U are afraid of being judged, or at least u are too arrogant that u can’t take any honest criticism.
I am gonna tell u this again, in the very same sentence. I truly admire the two middle east men that i see everyday in my working place. They are FRIENDLY, GENTLE, POLITLE and HUMBLE. One of them reads Quran when he is free, not only during Ramadhan mind u. He is not trying to be good only during Ramadhan, not like u menj. Another one invited me to break fast with him, very sincerely. See this is how they show people how good their religion is. I guess this was the reason why a lot of people were drawn to Islam and some embrace the belief at their own will, because they see good muslims. They protray best what Islam teaches.
As for u menj, u are a loser. u are too full of urself that u even boast of (or at least attempt to) representing Islam. Not a chance menj. Probably u are HAPPY with what u said but I am not sure if God is HAPPY. I am not sure because I am in no position to represent God, and to tell even u what He thinks. I am not critisizing u because u are fasting and i wana put ur patience to test. But i can’t just keep quiet either, even when u are fasting, for what u said is truly provocative and inconsiderate. May be u just like controversies so much that u want it everyday huh?
Last but not least, menj, I think even if all the people here are Islam by faith, u will still stand out as an extremist, for whatever cause u wana fight for, I dunno. Because u like controversies, don’t u? Hopefully u will b able to contribute to mankind one day. I guess Plato didn’t even know his philosophy will b remembered till this day, but he kept teaching with a humble heart. But menj, on the other hand is thinking that he is making a difference here. How funny, and how irony.

hari raya’s a happy time. let’s not think about menj so much.

MENJ is a Malaysian mujaheedeen wannabe version of Adrian Mole (a rather delusional character from Sue Townsend), he’s actually quite funny.
As with Andy Kaufman’s personas, one can’t be sure whether to pity, hate or get concerned about guy.
He’s got a delusional exaggerated sense of self worth. Consistent with that he exhibits the typical symptoms; he’s defensive and makes incoherent arguements (he brings forth images of classic Jon Lovich’s pathalogical liar character from Saturday Night Live).
Inflating his “achievements”, I can’t decide whether to cringe or laugh:
He’s a 2nd year APIIT student who think’s he’s a hotshot at MIT Media Labs or something and describing his “works” as though he were up there with the great authors. Proud displays of “overloaded” bookshelves as though they were bearing the weight of the library of congress on them.
I heard one of his pod casts, curious to see what he sounded like. It was what I’d expected, conducted in halting, poorly eunciated English, ugly ideas expressed in an ugly voice (rather fitting). To listen to one in its entirety would require infusions of ketamine directly to the vein.
I’d seen calls to get him banned, etc but I believe it’s necessary to provide a channel for parochial zealots like him to be rabid in the public eye.
Under all his rantings, and those of other ultraright extremists like Mahaguru58, the Mufti of Perak, is an underlying interracial malefecence and religious intolerence in today’s Malaysia.

Itu auntie banyak pandai mempertahankan agama tapi langsung tak berani mengutuk kerajaan, terutama sekali kenaikan tariff elektrik of Tenaga Nasional Berhad.. Huhuhu..
Ada satu perkataan memang tepat untuk adegan awek ni. Hipokrit.
I like it that you pointed out TNB because of all this shush shush about me working with TNB eh? So I’ll say yes, for instance, and that I work with TNB, and therefore I support the work that we are pushing out at TNB. Is it wrong? Even as a citizen, I know and understand that certain hikes are necessary, and things like the tariff increase for instance, due after 9 years. Or you can of course say that I like the hike because it means that my company will finally be able to earn some money and hence allow me to look forward to a fatter paycheck. Is there something wrong with this equation?
For God sakes you idiot, please read up what my opinion is about our government before jumping to your stupid conclusion of GLC-ers sure support Gahmen first. And apart of that, I think as citizens we SHOULD support the government, but that doesn’t exclude us from CRITICIZING the government. But your rationale of kutuk demi mengutuk is shallow. All you have been doing along is criticizing every darn decision made, good or bad doesn’t matter, your rationale is ‘kalau tak kutuk, tak jadi pembangkang’.
Ada dua perkataan lagi tepat untuk adegan encik ni. Kurang membaca.

My friend’s father runs this coffeeshop in Subang. They just raised the price of siew yoke fan from RM3.50 to RM3.70.
I suppose that makes my friend a hypocrite too.

This is a very ridiculous scenario. Imagine what truble one may have run into if he were to say something about our official religion. Those top officers will say this is an ultra sensitive issue, one should not b so ignorant as to ‘play with fire’ and blah blah blah…And then what may haapen next? Demand for apology and then claiming that is not an apology even one is willing to do so. Or may be held under I Suck Ass. Some publicity seeking idiots are playing with fire, but no action taken. I wonder what may happen to this country if those stinky mouths not shut? Racial harmony? Bangsa Malaysia? How many more years do we need to achieve that?
October 20th, 2006 at 1:38 pm
people like him give muslims a bad name. i don’t see anything wrong with you discussing your views on religion in your blog. if anything, it brings everyone to a greater understanding of religious principles. people like him could have used this forum to demonstrate how gently peaceful islam really is, but has chosen to do the opposite instead.
thank you to everyone who has not generalised all muslims to be this him. mini, please be assured that there are moderate muslims out there. people like him call us ‘liberals’ but let us not call them extremists, fanatics or terrorists. let us allow god to decide on labels.

Write on, Mini.
God bless ya,

i really doubt anyone really learns anything from minishorts’ posts. there’s no good to be gained by insulting other religions and people who follow those religions. at the same time, it is important to NOT ignore people who say things that may incite hate and spread distorted views about the various beliefs people hold close to their hearts.
respect is the word.
thanks for being eloquent enough to express what the rest of us clumsy writers are unable to say, claire.
