Round and round the blaming bush…

Thursday, January 18th, 2007 @ 4:54 pm | Life-logger

I tak faham lah, these games people play…

Ridiculous as these things are, I thought it's quite hilarious to read this line over and over again:

NST sues bloggers
NST sues bloggers
NST sues bloggers
NST sues bloggers
NST sues bloggers
NST sues bloggers
NST sues bloggers
NST sues bloggers
NST sues bloggers

I don't know lah… The fact that the above has happened within the last 24 hours, just makes our country all the more interesting. kononnya nak jadi 1st world country, padahal yang ikut 1st world tu hanya lah sue-sue mentality… I don't see them doing anything to emulate 1st world positive mentality anyway…

So the big guys at NST, I know I'm just the new kid on the block, you probably makan garam more than I eat rice, and well, most of the them I have no clue about important things like how socio-political bloggers who go by the name of Jeff and Rocky have the power to affect my place of position (cos I'm not in a place of position, you see), but there's this poem that's being taught to 4th Formers in the KBSM syllabus right now, by Rudyard Kipling, and I thought right now, I'd dedicate this poem to you, even though it comes a tad too late:

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

For all its worth, you've probably proven your detractors right by deciding to do what you're doing now.

    This doesn’t augur well at all…. we are indeed living in both new suing times and new sad times.

    Nice pick for the poem, though I feel only the first stanza is appropriate:

    ….But make allowance for their doubting too;

    I would think that these people should be entitled to voice their skeptical and speculative thoughts/opinions, why sue?

    PS. Good to see poetry being ‘promoted’ here.

    Glad to have you back after a long hiatus. Now I can get my “daily mini-fied reads”…Sigh of relief..

    good poem. It is pretty disturbing indeed looking at the trend and the path that our motherland is taking…sad indeed…

    1st class facilities, 6th class mentality

    It’s forgivable and honest to admit one has flaws, but it is flawed indeed to think you don’t have any flaws and worst, pushing the blame..sad but true..

    is there hope?

    Yeah, I read a headline today that some country was going to start making political bloggers register. Some places just don’t like not being Big Brother [1984 - Orwell reference, Not reality TV show reference].

    I worry about the world where even places like the US are trying to stop peoples freedom of speech.

    I think suing people is fun.

    Seriously la, why is everybody so bothered over who is right or wrong? Let the courts decide la.

    Those wigs they wear in court are cool.
