Random thoughts on a working Saturday
I'm at the office today, waiting for the folks from LensaMalaysia. We're having our March LensaTalks with Eric Peris as the 'star of the month', in right about 1/2 hour from now.
Last night was quite taxing on me. I left Bangsar at about 4.45 pm only to get stuck in the Friday jams. The party was … well… different. Going as a blogger, vs going as a representative of a sponsor, these two oddly juxtaposed together had its telling effects on how I considered the whole affair. I'll leave the reporting to the rest of the bloggers who had more fun than I did. Suffice to say… aiyah, when you sit at the VIP table with VERY IMPORTANT PEEEEEEPPPPLLLLEEEE, you tend to get a little claustrophobic—which was precisely how I felt.
I had the pleasure though, of sharing the table with the Chairman of PIKOM, Mr Lee Boon Kok who had found an old friend in socio-political blogger Jeff Ooi. Shallow me thought it was rather amusing that Mr Lee mentioned of the lawsuit involving bloggers (you-know-who) several times. For some reason, the unlikeliest bunch of people have become a force to be reckoned with. With the lawsuit, now when you say 'blogger', the cocked-eyebrow expression has become rare.
Unfortunately, even being a blogger myself, I'm not sure if this is entirely a good thing.
I'd like to consider this fact that while the bulk of the bloggers are still very much happy in our efforts in monkey-ing around. Now understand that I have no intention of ridiculing this interest, rather I'm talking from a personal point and to me, going online to rant and ramble in this quiet space has become a spirited distraction from work — hence the expression. Having digressed, I actually said that being noticed is not always a good thing, because the rest of the Internet-savvy people who're now listening to us might think we're all a little bit like Jeff and Rocky. Wander around a little more and well, we're not all like that. Most of us are far too opinionated for our own good, and while being bloggers we're well able to admit our shortcomings and remind each other that what we say might not be representative of the community as a whole… newcomers to the scene might get over-excited and take us far too seriously.
I'm probably going to sit on that consideration over the next few days. The talk has just begun.
If you're interested in photography, why not come to the TNB-LensaTalk event, happening every 2nd Saturday of the month. Interested members of the public have to register at LensaMalaysia's forums, which is in itself a great place to share ideas with amateurs and professionals.
Note: I just found out about what Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan said about bloggers. Hmmm… maybe he should read this post lah… because I'm female, working, and well, the Datuk might want to remember that there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and STATISTICS. Since he is also a politician I thought of searching around to see if he also holds a law degree at the same time. Alas, no such luck… I can't seem to get a biography that describes his education background. Okay, maybe I really should keep my opinions to myself.
