life, love, *motherhood, and then more
Every time is makan time.
Shhh.
Here's an open secret.
Where I work hoh, the people are super fond of eating-lor. Aiseh, it's so incredible what the words jamuan ringan can translate into.
I mean, I just came from an officiating ceremony graced by some menteri, you know, the type where you have the Negaraku and then the doa ceremony and then the long long speeches (with superbly long preambles), and then after that the launch gimmicks with oh-so-predictable final-countdown styled fanfare.
Then there's the session where everyone gleefully adjourns for the makan hall for jamuan ringan (light refreshments).
Jialat the refreshments were not 'ringan' at all, okay? Fried rice, mee siam, fried chicken, daal curry, murtabak, satay (beef and chicken), sup rawan lembu, and then kuih-muih like popiah goreng and kuih lapis.
Which part of that menu looks light to you?
…
I'm ranting because I came back super thirsty. Despite the incredible selection of edibles, the drinkables were severely limited.
Cordial lychee, coffee / tea , teh tarik (super manis).
…
These people don't know that human beings thrive better on plain water.

Jamuan ringan probably consists of anything that does not have an actually lamb being roasted for hours and being cut on the spot for consumption. Other than that can consider “jamuan ringan” ?? hahahah
