Really Wild Day at Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary
May 22, 2007 in General
Folks, I've been super busy lately. Apologies for the lateness, and erm, for those of your adverse to me advertising, apologies for what I'm going to do here next.
Some of you who did the AsiaWorks LP asked me what I'm doing for the WoW, and yeah, this is it. We're celebrating our WoW Day on World Environment Day!!
On June 5, 2007, in conjunction with World Environment Day, the members of my Leadership Program (LP106) will be bringing a group of city orphans and underprivileged Sepang Estate children to the Elephant Sanctuary in Kuala Gandah to experience the joy and gift of giving to another fellow living thing.
Last week I went on a recce with some of my LP batch members to the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary. Yup the place where Baby Embun was found, where Baby Ceri was found and where Baby Mardos was found with a fractured back leg and had to be put down. Last week we said hello to this little cutie:

On June 5 we're bringing over 60 orphans to come to play with the elephants there. We're going to give the kids special t-shirts to wear, teach them some elephant games, take them to feed the baby elephants (there are five other babies) and then bring them to ride on the adult elephants (six adults there). Later we're going to allow the kids to bathe the animals and then lastly, we're giving the kids some paint brushes and PVC ink so that these children can paint some really beeyootiffulll drawings to give to the sanctuary as a gift for life!
We have a very humble budget of RM15 000, out of with about RM3000 will be going to the orphanages, and RM2000 will go to the children. Optimistically speaking, if we get more than RM15000, we will split the leftover funds accordingly.
I'm seeking for generous readers, corporate communications biggies, fund managers, super rich philantrophers, to support us in this little project. Help us out here? Please? We have invited about 100 children, and the 100 children will only be able to come if we get enough funds to purchase all the necessary (including insurance, planning for the transportation, and etc).
So if anyone is interested in giving a hand, please write in to myself minishorts@gmail.com, or my friend, yean0246@yahoo.com.hk, with your contact number, and a suggestion on how you'd like to extend your support towards the kids or the elephants. We will contact you personally (or I will send some other crazy soul to talk to you personally) to discuss how we can arrange for funds contributions.
