Really Wild Day at Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 @ 4:46 pm | General

Folks, I've been super busy lately. Apologies for the lateness, and erm, for those of your adverse to me advertising, apologies for what I'm going to do here next.

Some of you who did the AsiaWorks LP asked me what I'm doing for the WoW, and yeah, this is it. We're celebrating our WoW Day on World Environment Day!!

On June 5, 2007, in conjunction with World Environment Day, the members of my Leadership Program (LP106) will be bringing a group of city orphans and underprivileged Sepang Estate children to the Elephant Sanctuary in Kuala Gandah to experience the joy and gift of giving to another fellow living thing.

Last week I went on a recce with some of my LP batch members to the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary. Yup the place where Baby Embun was found, where Baby Ceri was found and where Baby Mardos was found with a fractured back leg and had to be put down. Last week we said hello to this little cutie:

On June 5 we're bringing over 60 orphans to come to play with the elephants there. We're going to give the kids special t-shirts to wear, teach them some elephant games, take them to feed the baby elephants (there are five other babies) and then bring them to ride on the adult elephants (six adults there). Later we're going to allow the kids to bathe the animals and then lastly, we're giving the kids some paint brushes and PVC ink so that these children can paint some really beeyootiffulll drawings to give to the sanctuary as a gift for life!

We have a very humble budget of RM15 000, out of with about RM3000 will be going to the orphanages, and RM2000 will go to the children. Optimistically speaking, if we get more than RM15000, we will split the leftover funds accordingly.

I'm seeking for generous readers, corporate communications biggies, fund managers, super rich philantrophers, to support us in this little project. Help us out here? Please? We have invited about 100 children, and the 100 children will only be able to come if we get enough funds to purchase all the necessary (including insurance, planning for the transportation, and etc).

So if anyone is interested in giving a hand, please write in to myself minishorts@gmail.com, or my friend, yean0246@yahoo.com.hk, with your contact number, and a suggestion on how you'd like to extend your support towards the kids or the elephants. We will contact you personally (or I will send some other crazy soul to talk to you personally) to discuss how we can arrange for funds contributions.

oh.. so cute.. I’d love to support … unfortunately it’s a bad month and I had plenty of unusual expenses that came up like Aunty’s 70th bday pressie and car repairs. Bah!

its recce short for reconnaissance… not rekkie.

just a tot, wouldn’t u want 2 have itinerary for the kids that teaches them something about elephants, than merely games and play?

hullo hullo thanks for pointing out my mistakes… anyway of course there’s an itinerary!! however i will only show the itinerary to ppl who are pledging funds… so would you like to give a little?

I will give if this is not Asiawork related. You have cross to the dark side.

For God’s sake if you don’t want to give anything just shut up and sit aside. What’s so terrible about it being AsiaWorks anyway since the objective ultimately is still to allow underprivileged children to experience the joy of giving? THat’s like saying I will give if it’s not Christian-related, or Buddhist-related, or AWAM-related, or BN-related, or (insertwhateveryouwanthere)-related. It’s okay to have principles and choose not to give, but being-principled about who you choose to support doesn’t mean you have to be pathetically mean about the originating counsel. So yeah, I kind of concur with you, maybe you are a little sick.

Honestly, I agree with Claire. Whether or not you agree with what she does on the side, i.e. Asiaworks, is really her own business. She is not necessarily trying to convert anyone, so I don’t think we really have the right to criticize her.

why is the little elephant in chains?

Thought your engrand damn kao power can die?

wahhahahha justine lee, always ready to pounce on khoo choo ki when she makes a slip. so predictable, 5 years also never change. apparently YOU thought my engrand damn kau power can die. Today only I know. i not perfect, you think me perfect. anyway welcome back and thanks for the flattery. spelling error can die lah now only i know. surrender.

Sorry for the threadjack, but I have a random question:
Has Facebook started spreading into Malaysia? If you’re not sure what Facebook is, its a social networking site. If not, what are the social networking sites that are big in Malaysia?

  11. sherve Says:

ooH! i’d LOVE to help with the kids…
can’t help with the moolah though, still a student :D

too bad i won’t be in Malaysia on the 5th of June…
but if there is anything else I can do during the months mid June to September,
    hit me! : )
More than willing to lend a hand.

I agree with sick, asiaworks suck salty balls big time. They’re wolf in sheep’s clothing. I advise DO NOT donate through this satanical cult/group… But do donate/help directly to them orphans however much you can. that’s the best thing to do.
