A long time ago when I was Ms Little Bitchy I used to be evil enough to park my car in a manner that would block whoever was idiotic enough to take up another person's lot. Doesn't help that my lot happens to be just next to the Visitor's parking area, which probably results in the situation I have now.
OK usually the saint in me also chooses to place my name car on the dashboard so that whoever comes down can at least call me on the phone and then I can head on over to move my vehicle away.
These days I choose to not bother and park my car somewhere illegal and closer to the building, so that I wouldn't have to leave my work hanging just to get down to the parking areas and allow the accident law-breaker to rectify his mistakes.
Today was interesting though. As usual I came to the office to see that someone had taken my parking lot again. I drove around for a bit and then I saw the owner of the car at the boot area, taking some stuff out (presumably) and then stopping to chat to a friend who was on a bike. This time I chose to wait. Ah, strange things people do, I pointed to the lot as she was locking up her door. She smiled at me and shook her head, indicating that the lot was hers.
I sat in my seat frantically pointing at the sticker on my windscreen that proved right of way.
Oh hoh woman who took my lot smiled and shook her head and started walking away.
So I wound down my window and said, 'Hi there, can I have the lot back?'
She started looking very angry and glared (!) at me, then she said, 'I have my car parked here you see…'
Then I said, 'Erm, I've been meaning to tell you for days, but this is my parking lot, see the number on my sticker, and it would be nice if today I can park in it rather than find an illegal spot elsewhere… that okay with you?'
…
So that's how I got my lot back.
Felt like a lousy bitch anyway. Sigh.

Maybe… just maybe… she smiled and shook her head, meaning to imply, “No, I’m not leaving”? Maybe, again, she didn’t see your plate number, so she thought you were just interested in that lot, not knowing it’s “yours”? Although of course, she shouldn’t have parked there in the first place – that, I agree!
Don’t feel bad~

*Applaud*
Nothing to feel bitchy about – you acted really civilized wor. We probably wouldn’t have waited for her to prep up and leave before grabbing her attention.

I’ll tell you a funny story. When I once moved into a new apartment block [back when I was married], we thought the parking spaces were numbered according to the Unit number, and someone kept parking in our spot.
I was trying to be nice about it, but my wife kept telling me to go tell the person off who was parking in our spot. I just kept parking on the road and keeping the peace. After all, it was no big deal.
Then, my wife started getting really angry at me, so she made me write a nasty letter [she dictated it], telling the person where to go and stuff.
So, I then took the note down to the car and left it on their windscreen for them to find it later.
But, I started to really stress about it, [because I hate saying or doing nasty things to anyone ... especially if it isn't really an inconvenience] and I pulled out the lease agreement and started reading, because I wanted to know EXACTLY what the agreement said.
I discovered that anyone was allowed to park in any spot [so we didn't have an allocated spot. There just happened to be as many spots as apartments].
I went back down to get the letter back, but the car was gone! OOOOooooops!
I felt really embarrassed about it whenever I ran into the owner … I just hope he didn’t know who wrote the note. The only clue on it was that he kept parking in my spot … hopefully he never put two and two together to figure out it was the people living in apartment 10! hee hee!

Based on what you said, it was the right thing to do since it IS your parking lot anyway. Besides you should be proud because the way you got back your lot was so nicely done. If it were me, blasted like hell and might have turned ugly. cheers =)

hehe… let me share my story… Some guy in a black camry parked at my reserved lot for numerous times, causing me much problems in finding another lot. after a while, I wrote him a simple note, saying the lot was a reserved one and he should not park in it.
I came back to find my note on the floor near the lot. I picked it up and the next day I put it back on his windscreen… he didn’t park there again till now…

another person took my lot again today.
I think I’m going to photocopy a set of notes to clip on to other people’s parking lots.

Actually, as it IS a reserved spot, can you have them towed away?
Yeah, I know, that is being bitchy, but you could start by putting a note on the persons car and recording their number plate. If they do it a second time, get it towed.
You might have to check to make sure this is Okay with your management though.

Why not do this, put up a note or something which says…
“The following cars have been towed for parking in this lot
- wab 1234
- wac 9213
- abd 8512
-
-
-
-
Would you like your car towed as well?”
