Of Vera Wang and little girl dreams

That title by the way has nothing princessy about it, after finding out that a piece from VW's Fall 2008 collection costs well over 42000 dollars (Singapore dollars)… and also finding out that Villa Park's freehold apartments in not-so-classy Bukit Serdang will only cost me about RM150k…

No, Eric and I are not planning to buy a house yet because, obviously we're poor and we can't afford anything, not even the RM1500 needed to get a tailor-made gown from Lis Bridal.

I'm so broke I'm considering a second-hand dress from trusty old E-bay, after finding out that rental for a dream gown at My Dream Wedding House (that place in Damansara Perdana) will set me back at least RM1300, which allows me the opportunity to keep the dress for three days and two nights only.

Weddings ARE an excuses for people for charge atrocious bits of money, and for well wishers to pretend they're being nice with all their offers of help. HHAHAHAH today I almost snapped at April for telling me that the RM1149 dress at Coast was awesome (because it's true it's Awesome, it's just that I can't afford it… or even if I could afford it I'd rather buy an Ipod with the money).

So when a little girl innocently strolled into my site and said that the diamond on my ring is huge and offered a friendly guess, 'Let me guess, is it 1 carat?' I nearly burst and became all snarly and evil.

Maybe it's because I was flipping through some magazines a while ago and then I saw a 1.06 carat ring (Colour G, VS1) goes for about 20k?

Madness the prices that these people charge for bling-blings.

So no… the ring is NOT a one-carat ring. I'd kill Eric if he spent so much money on an ornament…

I need discounts. Discounts! Help!

From the pics, I can guess that the diamond is about 0.5 Carat, color is E grade, Clarity is VVS1 and it’s a perfect cut Solitaire diamond… :P

and that Eric probably did spend a small fortune on this ring! so you better kill him now…

It’s okay. =) We all have times where we go cranky. The ring appears to have a big diamond for some reason… Haha

obviously the little girl has no clue the size of a 1 carat stone….

i know its a heavy price to pay for a chunk of highly compressed carbon….but deep down, tell us honestly you didnt want a 1 carat stone?

Good luck on your wedding plans. Nearing the end of my own, I know for a fact you’ll be needing it. And truck loads of patience to boot :)

Don’t worry… a diamond of 0.5 carat from Staria won’t cost too much to pay… so Eric is safe.. lol

and a 1.06 carat ring (Colour G, VS1) that goes for about 20k is consider dirt cheap. All in all it’s not the size only, one have to take into consideration of the cut which makes up the largest contribution to a diamond’s beauty… okok… I know Claire’s gonna kill me now for writing this since this has nothing to do with this post. Sorry Claire…!

    Congrats on your impending wedding!
My parents have thought my sister and I that a wedding is between two people. They never had a wedding reception. They just signed the papers and lived with their parents.
When my sister got married, she wanted the whole big wedding etc etc but counted the cash in her bank account and decided that no way…its too much to spend. So instead of inviting 500 people (3/4s of which are our parents’ old old friends that they have not seen in years), the list was cut down to less than 100 of very close relatives and friends that she and her hubby mixed with on a very frequent basis.
The dress? A long red dress which cost less than RM500 which has since been recycled many times to be an evening dress for other formal occasions.
The church? Sang praises, exchanged vows and gave everyone who attended a small box of chocolates.
The cost? Much less than the estimated RM100K if 400 people were to attend and were to be fed.
    Hope this helps!

angelicgrace: : Like I said - weddings are cheap. It’s the fairytale that’s expensive.

  15. Jeff from LA Says:

What is wrong with society when even little girls know to wonder if a diamond is X carats. But yeah, weddings are just outrageously expensive these days, from dresses to reception halls, etc.

Weddings are expensive, especially when you want everything to be so nice and perfect.
