Total WTF-ness.

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007 @ 1:26 pm | Wedding-planner

I'm sorry. I cannot help it. It's such a *snicker snicker* OMG situation. I know I'm poor and my measly earnings are less than a fraction of those 'see me so clever I earn money by ripping off other people's writings' bunch of 'professional bloggers', and I'm in no position to criticize the lots, but I still can't help it. I can't I can't.

I mean, congratulations and all on the wedding, but WTF???? (Link removed)

OK lah, people have cliques and all, and it just so happens that I fall into the stupid group that still believes in the translucence of pure poetry, a.k.a. I shall not put on any ads even if I drop dead and die, group. Or rather, maybe Eric and myself are lucky enough to be able to earn a living as 'professional' human beings, vis-a-vis the fantastico designation of 'pro-blogger' (the evil me believes problogging is a great get-away-job for people who can't otherwise find a job based on personal merit.

But it's sad. Check out my life. The papers on my desks, the subjection of my poor spirit to the laws that be, and the peasant-like kuih muih and over-sugared teh tarik I 'enjoy' for lunches. The walks I take out where people ask me why I take on a job with a government linked company (you pro-barisan izzit?, they always ask) and the constant haggling I make with the vendors, 'Please give me a good price lah Eric and I are starting out and we need the money for a house… give us the lowest price possible..'

Maybe I should do a wishing well of sorts, then some people might be generous enough to donate to the minishorts is getting married cause?

Ahem. No. No. I'm against pollution, isn't it obvious? Probloggerwedding… OMG whatever will you guys think of next? MUAHAHAHAH.

OK lah since I'm at it let me take the opportunity to rosakkan the advertising market sikit, by giving some friends some free publicity. Currently in my most probable-vendors list so far:

Banquet - Bangsar Seafood Garden

Dresses - Pretty In White

Photography - I've got lots of friends in photography so this is a tough choice, but so far its either Leonard & Greg from Front Page Studio or Jon from Ideal Wedding.

Flowers - Pure Seed, Eric has purchased every single one of his bouquets to me from this florist, AT NORMAL PRICE (no discounts one okay), because we're normal people (a.k.a. we are not probloggers who so el-cheapo go ask for discount in exchange for linkage).

Are my discounts extra-extra? Dunno, must do more photography of their stuff kua… see how lah..

I don’t really have anything against people making a living from internet advertising. It’s just people getting sponsorship for their wedding that just makes the whole thing so tasteless. Discounts? Well, that all depends on perception. ^.^

For me it’s ok to be sponsored, but don’t lah turn the whole wedding into such a commercialized affair. If you’re Siti Nurhaliza or Erra Fazira, I can quite understand the rationale behind sponsored dresses… but… this one, is really OTT lah

  2. vincent Says:

That one is basically el-cheapo too lazy to work and is asking for handouts for his wedding.

  3. Mei Says:

“Commercialized affair” is the right word! :) It wouldn’t have been so bad if they kept the sponsorship low-keyed but maybe they were being “honest”. Also, considering that their wedding was sponsored (dunno about the dinner venue though), would it be okay if invited guests NOT give an angpau? (Y’know the whole Chinese wedding thing being a community affair and etc…)

    Hahahaha!! Must. Stop. Laughing.

Now that’s what you call taking it to the next level. But in people’s defense, there are people who earn from what they write based on their own personal merit. This whole new world of problogging is just cashing in on the capabilities and success of people that have long since established themselves as writers first, bloggers second.

At the end of it, it doesn’t really matter. We all earn money the way we can. Some of us are just able to put down our expertise on paper for that next big advancement in life.

That’ll probably make up for that ridiculously expensive wedding fee. :P

I think they spam emailed as many Malaysian bloggers as possible about their wedding. I got the email, you got the email, Jennifer Tai, fashionasia, Pelf, IcyQueenGoddess, and Jolene all got the email… it’s laughable. Probloggers? Who are they? Who’s heard of them? Why would anybody want to sponsor complete unknowns?

  6. colbert low Says:

In my haste of the situation, I should not have massed emailed. I am sorry. Please accept my apologies and wish us all the best in our coming event

Hello. I took the liberty to delete your email, just to allow you a little bit of class to your crass version of a wedding. come on lah… no money don’t get married lah. don’t cheapen the whole thing like this can ah?

  7. Jenn Says:

Apparently now their project terbengkalai liao. Im glad you ‘came to your senses’, Colbert (’time constraints’ withstanding). Imagine 20 yrs from now your kids ask you “oh, did you pay for your wedding yourself, dad?” and you have to say, “Well, no. Actually, a bunch of idiots did.”

On the issue of this pro-blogging nonsense, I can totally go with people being paid to write opinions worth reading. I used to be able to Google-blogsearch for parenting advice on brands of carseats or what not. Now? I have to rely on Yahoo! Answers or MSN Q&A.

And no, Im not being paid by Yahoo nor MSN to say that. Really.

  8. Tine Says:

Hehehe, smart woi this people. At least they probably don’t have to “tear their face skin” like me and ask the retailers for discount because “we’re saving money for house, etc etc etc”. Hey just like you! :p

So siong man, getting married these days … *sigh* …

  9. Edwin Says:

Well they’ve gotten 13 advertisers so far, who dropped some serious coin (US$199 per advertiser) which means they’re already up by some RM8,639.71 after conversion. That ought to go some distance in offsetting the costs…personal choice methinks.

I just wonder, is this “income” even taxable?

  10. gbyeow Says:

I’ll join in and say WTF!

    Jon’s cool :)

  11. Dr. Tan Says:

Well, the thing is that the sponsors might even ask for videos to show the consummation.

    Heh heh heh.

Or maybe a group of people standing around and clapping.

  12. colbert low Says:

Dr Tan, you are funny. In the end, I am glad this sponsor idea has been dropped. I just don’t want it to blow way off proportion now that I know it was a silly idea. I will now concentrate on getting the event going….as I still have some planning to do.

  13. Tine Says:
