I like mirrors

I've always loved mirrors, been liking them for a long time, and using my old Pentax 330GS and then the Lumix FX3 (handy traveller that one), I've always, always never failed to do the look in the mirror and shoot myself photo.

I mean camwhoring is a granted, but camwhoring through a camera lens and a mirror makes all the difference!

I've got two today. Staying at the Hyatt Regency Kinabalu right now (business) and hotels like this always have an extra vanity mirror. Plus with the recent penyapu baru syndrome… cannot resist lah!!

Inilah hidup.

I just got my entire February filled with visits, travel, launches, rekkies, and trainings. Ah. The life.

It starts tomorrow, the trip to Sabah, and then the cancelling of my homebound ticket to Kota Bharu because there's the day-ahead trip to my mother hometown (just for a meeting and site-visit)… then the waiting for my fiance to join us on the 4th day of CNY, and of course then, I'll be back to KL preparing for yet another visit to Sabah, and then its back to Kota Bharu again, and then soon, February will be over.

I am honestly not looking to this month. I'm sure I'll survive February, but I'm not entirely sure I'll come out in one piece with the same kind of skin. Plus work scares me. I eat a lot when I'm totally stressed out and when people eat too much they get fat. I don't want to get fat.

I was in the elevator of The Gurney on Sunday when I decided to turn my camera up (it's the new broom sweeps clean syndrome, just had to shoot every thing that's available) and catch a shot of myself in the ceiling mirrors. And I really do like how the photo has turned out to be.

Speaking of mirrors, I was looking myself in the mirror this morning and even though the clothes fit loosely, it seems as if I could sense the fat cells in my blood stream converging to become one. I'm panicking. It's about 10 months to my wedding and I cannot afford to gain weight.

I have one sin when it comes to food. It's rice. And potatoes (very much like my pastor). Wait, yes, that's two sins. I have to put it down here because I don't particularly enjoy desserts (really!) and I'm not exactly a meat person (I can live without it). So this Lent, (the very first full one I'm actually enjoying), I've planned on my abstinence. Actually a week ago I declared my intention to go off rice for the entire Holy Month. And then today suddenly I realize the other vice I had was potatoes and potatoes has to go too.

So this Lent, it's no rice (rice-based noodles and porridge aside) and no potatoes for the entire season. It's going to be difficult.

Surfing blogs again. I was at Earnestly Speaking and I read this post that tickled me to the bone. Inspired to show off, I came up with this off my own version of the Compare People app.

I told Eric he's damn lucky to get me. The first is Kinky Blue Fairy (damn she's hot!) but it's cool to be listed just after her. For someone as old as I am (going on 28 already, shit!), listed as no 2 can be quite ego-flattering yah. I tenkyew friends, it's been a privilege.

I'm going off for a meeting now. They're calling for a launch on February 14th! Gah!

A Dim Sum Saturday

Seriously, how many people would actually drive 2 hours from KL to Ipoh just to have dimsum?

We woke up at 7.00 this morning (despite the strange argument I had with my mom — a little bit about that at another time) just to get to Foh San. (Actually I'm in Penang now, and it's a foodie-goodie trip of course!)

That strange little head bobbing there is Eric. Yes it's confirmed, he's uber prone to making weird faces whenever I take photos of him.

Evidence #2

And then ada pulak people who suddenly go make V-sign behind Eric one… ah. Like attracts like.

Evidence #3

Ok and since I have a new camera, it's time to show off the stuff I took. ^_^

Clockwise from top: some giant sized har gao, siew mai and har gao.

Cheong Fun — very yummy yoh!

Ribs (the porky type) on a bed of diced yam.

Green something…

Pau with real char siew.

Lotus Leaf Rice. So-so only. Then again, I don't really fancy hor yeap fun, so maybe I'm being biased here.

Of course I love my dim sum! Heh….

Daylight hump-a-lot

Just for kicks.

Weddings Central

So it's an absurd year of Weddings and it's official! I've got 10 weddings to attend this year and one to be the star of. The wedding planning, the wedding reception (after the church function), the cards, the grand banquet, the invitation, the relatives, the finance-planning for the big day, where to go during the honeymoon! OMG! But thank God for great wedding sites!

As for us, the adventure starts this week.

We're off to Penang to attend the wedding (or was it an engagement party? Can't recall) of one of Eric's LP friends. Now this is where being a frequent traveller helps a lot because I can get cool prices for lodging, and so I told Eric that I'd book the hotel room. It's the Gurney. I wanted G Hotel but it's so popular now they only have executive suites left.

So never mind that, I was telling my mom about the drive we were making this weekend.

'Oh so where are you going to stay?'
'The Gurney lah. I booked a room.'
'Really?'
'Yeah, two beds.'
'Of course. Just be careful…'
'Mom, there's two beds.'
'Yeah well two of you are engaged, and anyway both of you will be in the same room… one bed or two beds… well… and even if you booked two rooms, you can still go back to the same room.'

There she goes again. (Seriously since getting engaged my mom has been going on and on about sex in not so many words.)

'Mom!!'
'Well, you're both engaged and going to get married, so I don't care what you do lah, as long as you don't get pregnant before the wedding can adi.'

'…'

Answer or not? Talk or not? I just got license to pre-marital sex. Should we bring out the wine and confetti?
