Everyone wants to be special
It's the curse of the human race, that we're all born to die and in the midst of dying, we strive like mad cows in order to make our mark in the universe while we live.
In all communities, everyone wants to be special. In religious communities, Christian communities in particular, almost everyone wants to be part of a living church (as if there is a such as thing as a dead church, really). Everyone wants to be part of a 'revival' movement, its as if its an important fraternity to belong to.
I despair sometimes, because its hard to find the simple Christian who is satisfied with being merely just another one of His followers.
Nothing is as extraordinary as the wish to be ordinary, someone once said. I think this applies everywhere, even in church.

You’re very special minishorts. Very pretty too. Lots of men would love to have you for dinner

I was once fortunate to know a friend who was only special in that he was honest about what he liked and disliked. Did he stand out, or make an attempt to? No, I don’t think so. I don’t know if he was content to be a Christian, but God knows he was a great one to us.
Unfortunately, he’s dead now. The good ones always die young.

Everyone wants to leave their mark at the end of the day, whether they are Christians or not. I think it’s just human nature and nothing to do with religion. The rapture theory is way over my head. I mean, who cares where heaven is (is it up there or is heaven here since Jesus is meant to return here)..sigh. I think the best way is just to try to live a Christ-like way and not worry too much about theology. Afterall, pastors are also human. Best keep eyes on Jesus and not men
My wife reminds me of that everyday!

Well, I believe this depends on the church you are attending. If you are in charismatic church that are “hot” in evangelism and revival, the people there is gonna be on the move and always wanna reach out to everyone. If you are in more “mundane” churches like Catholics/Methodist, they led less colourful life and not so “aggressive” in reaching out.
It is always the responsibility of a Christian to spread the Good News. However, as we know, human society always has this “follow the crowd” attitude and Christian community are not spared from this kind of behaviour. So in a simple word, you look like “less normal” when you are “quiet” in charismatic church or when you are being too loud in Catholics/Methodist church.
Each Christian has their own role to play, we are all vessels in different size and shape. Although we are always called to play bigger part, I do believe it is wrong to impose another Christian to do the same load as you can do or to think less of a Christian who do “less”. It would be more meaningful to do something “less” with grateful heart than to do something “grand” with doubtful heart.
Only HE alone can judge us as only He alone knows our heart and mind.

Why be ordinary when you can be extraordinary. It just means going that extra mile to be ordinary!

Well, I’m ordinary. Simple Christian. Know lots of people who are like that too.
