well somewhere along the way of 'maturing' into womanhood I grew up realizing that the moment you start separating yourself from the masses you tend towards becoming a little over the line, resulting in very poor governance / management. The 'separation' of powers is the root of bureaucracy, the segregationg of classes, the evil we call the caste system. If we're all preaching to the same tune of let all races be the same, let all men be equal, let us respect each other, then the concept (or abomination, as some insist on calling it so) called the Boot Camp and its 'torture-styled, humiliating' techniques should be extended across the board.

So I stick to my guns. SOmeone said its not important that Judges and Ministers and MPs and Primeministers and Kings come in as Team Players. I'm of the opinion that there is no choice about it, as Malaysians, we are all part of the Malaysian team, regardless of occupation, position, Datukship or Kingship.

Well, the thing abt the legal profession's & judiciary's whining is that it's based on the doctrine of separation of powers.

The Judiciary may be government servants, yes, but functionally, the Judiciary is (or in our case, should be) separate from government and independent, so that a proper check and balance can operate. Bootcamps btwn judiciary and government should not even be mooted, in an advanced political system, much less required by government. It's the principle of it that's objectionable, what more the content.

The "big fuss" abt the Salleh Abbas saga and 1988 is a bit difficult for people without legal background to appreciate unless they're willing to read long long paragraphs with lots of words that require non-emotional processing (an activity that I find 98% of the population to be unable to perform). Conclusion is, most people don't (nor can be bothered to) understand what the doctrine of separation of powers really means.

There is dignity in the legal profession and it's exemplified by the bedrock role that Law plays in the history of development of civilisation (something you can't quite say of other professions). The very existence of Jurisprudence as an integral part of the study of law negates the necessity to "team-build". In fact, team-building with Government goes against the very idea of the Law's independence.

Hence I too would be insulted at being required to attend a "boot camp" as part of my job, were I in the legal service.

Hey hey!! I did the same at scout camps too! Must carry egg around, cannot break it. It's actually quite a common teambuilding exercise.

And taking orders from a junior officer is a good leadership training tool, both for the senior guy and the junior guy.

If these are all the allegations that he has, I am damn disappointed.
