Who to believe?

Monday, July 7th, 2008 @ 8:37 am | General

Bernama TV didn't show anything.

Some aunty from the market told my mom it was about 20,000 people.

The news on the radio said, 'Gathering was a failure as less than 10,000 people showed up.'

And then Malaysiakini said the reverse, 'Thousands!', putting down up to 30,000 people.

0 pax, 10,000 pax, 20,000 pax, 30,000 pax. Macam-macam lah. Who should we believe?

Damn stupid.

add-on

I wanted to say this also. Everyone is talking about protesting. No offence to those who genuinely care - you know I know you guys, you know I feel you guys. But I can't help but also wonder. Just how many people are protesting because they genuinely care and genuinely want change? Vs those who are part of the protest because right now, it's cool to be part of the big protest movement.

Because when it boils down to taking a stand, and making that choice to be part of the difference, the bulk of the nation are simply too cowardly to do the right thing. Nothing a little bit of splurging and pretty little gifts can't fix. That's what we're all like. Little Balas and Saifuls walking around. We hate them because they reflect what the most of us are really like.

There’s an age old axiom - people see what they want to see. Isn’t that how PR and adverstising works?

It’s so simple. On the next protest, be there to judge it for yourself.

YOu can take a look at a stadium and say ‘100,000′ immediately. Cool. Where’d you get your special powers? hehe

Yes, I care about what’s happening and I care about changing Malaysia to be a better country. But we scared about protesting will destroy our future and harm our safety, so we didn’t.

Was there.More than 30k ppl, definitely. The number of cars itself was enough to cause a two and a half hour crawl to get out of the stadium car park.It was worse than driving out of Ikano after new year’s eve.

Whoever said it was 30K people are lying their asses off.

You know the entrance there is along the same road as the Income Tax building?

I passed that road on the way home that day. There were definitely more people on that road during tax season.
