We live in Stupid

I've always been one to admire our forefathers who lived in time of strife and turmoil - the people who founded this nation, those of them who fought through the Japanese occupation, they who lived in the era where independence was fought for, and where we had to fend off our 'mortal' enemies. Those were the time when people were willing to put their asses on the line just to uphold a belief and a vision.

Even though I'm not a great fan of Karl Marx, and neither do I like communism, I can't help but admire the communists for the distance they would go just to make real their dreams. Visionary people deserve some sort of idolatry, in my opinion, for the reason that they have set the benchmarks and examples that we may model our lives upon… I've always thought how nice it would be to live through the excitement of war and nationbuilding, in my time, I've always felt that we're in the era of peace, justice and stability, and while it was good, it felt some what empty.

I'm a crisis-whore you see.

When we entered the era of post March 8, Eric and I had a little talk about how 'we now live in interesting times', where we have a Bush-like leader (who some people are actually still wondering, either he's very very stupid, or he's very very smart - though me myself, I am leaning towards the opinions of the former), an Obama-Mandela styled leader with back-thrusting allegations to weigh his bad back down, a Marcos-Imelda styled leader with a scandalous case of sex-murder-bombs to plague his climb to the tower of gold, and in the shadows, a punk with world-class university belt who happens to own a shop that makes The Emperor's New Clothes at the city's Pavillion.

At least we could have lived through our lives with the experience of the excitement that our forefathers used to fight through - because justice, peace and stability can be such boring periods in history, you see?

Fast forward 4 months, its now July and we're living through stupid. I mean, interesting and exciting don't quite cut it as the description of what Malaysia is undergoing now.

We have an ex prime minister who has had 22 years of captaining this ship, coming back to the BLOGOSPHERE (hah, laugh here, its a crazy joke) to write rants, yes rants, and his legion of 300 odd crazy fanboys will worship whatever he says. We have a dead woman whose photos keep coming up in the news - Altantuya bla bla, we have statutory declarations (I confess I so stupid I didn't know what statutory declarations were until Bala the PI came up), and a PI who owns a dog called Sharibuu (odd odd odd), we have the Deputy Prime Minister's wife going up on national news to say 'I'm innocent' - proof pigi mana?, we have a 'Prime Minister in waiting' going September 16 day in day out and I'm at the point of going 'tunggu apa lagi lah oi… wasting my time nia', and we have a judiciary and security system that actually expects us to believe that a 60 year old man can sodomize a 23 year old 6 ft tall dude.

Joke of the year is how our mumbling PM can actually go on national news and say 'MALAYSIA ECONOMY STILL STABLE' AND attributes stability to 'foreign investments are still coming in'.

"It's stable overall. There is nothing to worry about. We continue to attract foreign investment and we are still a preferred investment destination," the prime minister said.

Come on lah, you think we bodoh or what?

Okay, not that I am certain he was framed or what because I honestly don’t know what to make of it.

But I disagree about the 60 year old man vs 23 year old bloke argument. Under that logic, women cannot rape men because they are physically weaker. However, many rape counsellors would tell you that that is not the case. Rape is not just about sex and exerting physical strength. It is about control and exerting your power and superiority over others.

That is what makes it such a heineous crime.

There is always the possibility of emotional blackmail. Kinda like a boss saying to the secretary, if you don’t sleep with me, I will sack you. That’s considered rape too, you know.
