Brain drain and what nots

Jul 22, 2008 in General

If we were really willing to be totally, totally honest with ourselves, the braindrain happens in this country not because Malaysia has a lousy government. Its because we have a lousy set of citizens, who would leave this country and walk out on it when it is facing its darkest demons, because of an all-time low impression of the government. We have citizens who, sitting in their high horses in skyscrappers overseas, would read stories and tales of the things happening 'back home', come up with an additional speculative theory (or two) and then sum in up in a simple sentence, 'That's why I'm not coming home.'

We're doomed to fail because we have citizens who are unwilling to admit that its as simple as, 'Its because I'm a selfish person who will go where hope is already a reality than to stay behind to plant hope.'

We're doomed to fail because we have people who refuse to be associated with the government because the government is bad. 'I don't want to look bad, that's why no matter what, I will not be associated with the government.'

And this is my opinion, that it all really boils down to a simple a chicken or egg first argument. We love saying that the brain drain is happening because we don't reward our people well enough. Do the math folks. We don't reward our people well enough because what's remaining are people who don't deserve to be rewarded well enough. We don't have a good government, because all the good people would rather stand aside and point their fingers at government servants, in particular those 'under educated Melayu' folks in the government service (worse if they wear some tudung labuh). We'd rather cling on tightly to our gifts of stereotyping the people according to their race types, their gender types, their religious types…

And isn't it ironic that when someone points a finger at us and accuses us of being religious bigots, of being racist pricks, we react and recoil in horror as if the label is the worst kind of punishment one could ever have.

My point is, if all you are is about saving your own bloody ass, at least admit it and get the fuck out of here. Stop kidding yourself that you actually care for this country. And neither are you an asset to whereever you're going. At least admit it, and be upfront about the fact: you and your brain is only as good, as valuable and as useful as the next best country that offers you the salary and lifestyle that's closest to your dreams.

‘Serve the rakyat’ and all that bull.

Lies, damned lies and politicians.

Barisan Nasional and the many-million dollar election campaign where instead of keeping the streets clean, safe and being accountable for the safety of people, and at least caring about kids who were taken off the streets, raped, killed and then stuffed into bowling bags… the government was busy talking about how much it had done in the past to 'keep the peace'.

As if the ability to 'keep the peace' can be called an 'accolade' that should therefore, justify why we need to vote them into power, again, in the first place.

And stupid front page spreads on ruling party-owned newspapers having the shit nerve to blast in gigantic bold headlines 'BN MENANG MAJORITI'.

Losing five states to an inexperienced opposition team can hardly be referred to as 'MENANG'.

A few weeks later you have the 'first lady' of the nation telling us to plant our own vegetables and fruit to cope with the rising inflation and costs of living. Senang je, for her, after all she's got the additional land to grow vegetables, fruit trees and probably rear a few lembu or kambing to slaughter on special occasions… tell that to the people living in the pigeonholes of Pantai Baharu. What do you expect them to grow for food? TAUGEH secara teknik Hidroponik?

Stupid 'Yang Berkhidmat' of the PRakyat front as well. All that bull about being voted in to serve the nation is starting to look like a whole load of shit. Not withstanding the fact that I cannot swallow that wholeload of 'evidence' that DS Anwar Ibrahim has Sodom and Gomorrah tendencies, neither can I take in all that thing about taking over the government on 16 September. There are two problems to this 'claim' (or threat, whichever way you want to look at it). The first is this issue about 'if you already have the numbers, what the fuck are you waiting for? The second is the more obvious issue of 'I thought you said you wanted to serve the rakyat' … so what's with this bullshit about taking over the government and promising the people that 'when we become the government we will bla bla bla…'

If there is one thing I know about wanting to make a difference and putting your heads and hearts and body into making that difference, is that you don't have to be the fucking prime minister to actually make a difference to this country and whatever it is you are standing for. My simple logic (simple, because I'm not very smart at all and I can't afford to consider the twists and turns of intelligent political scheming), tells me that, with five states in your power you can fucking make a huge difference. You just need to concentrate on running the states real well and with the current ruling coalition working as it does with TWO finance ministers and a plague of a really tarnished reputation, and you can be guaranteed of having the odds turned in your favor come 2010. You'll be 67 and just ripely matured enough to take on the role of Perdana Menteri Malaysia and the rakyat will rejoice.

But no, instead, PKR decides to go for its rallies and witch hunts, and Selangor giving out free water as a sign of caring for the poor (or, encouraging wastage), and then occasional scare-them-in-their-faces announcements of 'we will wait for September 16′…. while the DAP folks argue in several state-cabinets over the 'importance of keeping my dignity while I wear a songkok to meet the state Sultan'. So along the way, PAS conveniently pops into the picture and comes up with all that bull about being religious, morally right and holy defenders of Islam. So suddenly we have stories, (stories, because they're just that to me right now) about PAS splitting into two sects and one half of it actually considering joining UMNO…. And the BN front conveniently comes up with this amazing tell of the poor own smilin 23 year old university dropout who was at first, READY to take on the world and get married to his beautiful fiancee, when suddenly this 61 year old dude pops into his life and decides to give his asshole a little experiment in anal enlargement.

And then every single day we are reminded again and again just how amazingly inept our government-led Forensics department is, because they still need DSAI's LATEST DNA results to aid in the investigation. (So all those CSI Sunday weekends must have been a waste of time or… all that globally available information on DNA fingerprint tracking were, actually, not true.)

Then on other newspaper pages you have MIC leaders fighting to keep their reputation, or stories, (more stories, yes) of our beloved, defenders of 'the CHINESE RIGHT TO VERNACULAR EDUCATION' MCA, coming out in bold over the most important thing that matters to them right now: THE UP AND COMING PARTY elections and who the fuck is going to contest for vice presidency.

Do you see any thing that tells you, 'We are here to serve the rakyat' in today's news?

Or is it just me and my stupid pea brain's inability to understand how all this political bickering and fighting to sit in places of power is in fact, a necessity move in making efforts to serve the rakyat?

You know what? We're a samseng-led nation, that's what we are. All these UMNO, MCA, MIC, PKR, DAP, PAS crap, they're all the Kumpulan Kongsi Gelap Haisan dan Ghee Hin of the 21st century. Serve the rakyat, yang berkhidmat… whatever. The two letters Y.B. is now Yang Bongkok, Yang Berbohong.
