Piggy Oink Piggy Piggy Oink

Aug 12, 2008 in General

It occurs to me that people take things way too seriously in Malaysia for the wrong reasons. It's like we're stuck at the whole rebellious phase and we're not growing any older. We want so desperately prove that we're the right ones that we're willing to go through whatever acts of insanity to prove our point.

So just answer me a few things and I want a real rational explanation for this instead of the usual circular reasoning people have been shouting loudly these days:

How would a forum on religious conversion threaten a religion that's so embedded into the Malaysian culture that people don't usually think twice about it?

How does a religion that preaches tolerance among your fellow people suddenly spawn followers with no civility or respect whatsoever?

How are Malaysian Chinese pigs in any way?

I can only assume that because everyone is so wound up over the smallest details, we've lost our sense of humour. We think that by being serious over things all the time, we can be taken seriously and have things down our way. But you know what? The more seriously you take yourself, the more of a joke you become and so it shows, not just to those you represent and not just to the rest of the people in the country. This whole thing is so much of a farce that I doubt people elsewhere in the world would take us seriously.

I mean as much as I would like to see our nation take a step in the right direction, it's things like this that turn me off. I couldn't care less about it in the face of such stupidity. How any one can keep harping about the same thing over and over again is beyond my ability to understand it (oooh…this should also be a question to answer ya?).

So people, please la. Open up a bit. Or at least, develop a sense of humour. If you can't learn to take things with a pinch of salt, you can't begin to salt that ham. And in my book, ham that's not properly salted isn't really good ham to eat.

Oh you know what I mean.
