Switch Back

You've been a great audience this past week but, we can't always be someone else even if we wish it to be. It's just the way it is. We are who we are, and for better or for worse we have to accept that in ourselves…as well as in other people.
I would think and hope that all the world's hatred and prejudice could be wiped clean if only people took the time to actually wear, even a part of the shoes that makes us the people we know. All our racist tendencies, our phobic hatred, our blatant ignorance, our fear for the unknown, gone, by simply opening up and looking beyond what we're so used to seeing right here and now.
I'm not saying it is an easy thing, but it doesn't have to be hard. We just have to stop giving ourselves excuses not to do it and stop trying to prove we're right all the time. Even if comfort zones are there to make sure we don't go crazy, it doesn't mean we're any better a person by staying in it all the time expecting other people to change for us. After all, if we don't try it out ourselves, what hope is there that other people will follow suit?
Unless of course you're admitting you're some close-minded, parochial, traditionalist that protects "their own" simply because other people outside the loop are more different than you and don't deserve any more attention than your sympathy and your prayer that they will join your own closed world.
But hey…at least you're wearing a smile on your face when you're saying that in so many words, so it makes everything alright, right?
Idiots.
