If my words mattered
Dear Barisan Alternatif,
I really love the tropical country that is Malaysia. I superbly sayang Sabah, especially the Danum Valley area, in my few trips over to the Taman Negaras there, I've learnt to appreciate the fragility that is nature and also the amazing gifts God has given to us. So I understand the people's desire to stop the coal plant from being built. Any development, for sure, will have an impact on our precious environment.
Alas the very same people who don't want any power plant also complain when there is no electricity. So far as I can understand, the technology available to us doesn't allow electricity to be generated from nothing. So we're left with… errr… coal, nuclear or hydro. All have environmental impacts. Wind, solar and so called renewables also have environmental impact one you know – wind turbines cost a LOT a LOT of land area and a lot a lot of trees will have to go also.
So you see, if you want to oppose something, can there be an offer for an alternative? Because otherwise, this is quite annoying – like the opposition is forever jumping on the angry rakyat's reactions and using it to bulldoze their way into BN territory.
And if you don't come up with an alternative, then how can I trust that you will be a good government?
Aku sangat takut nak mengundi di Malaysia. Cos almost all politicians I know are merely championing their personal causes. I doubt they actually give a fuck about the rest of us minions here.
Just saying.

That postcard campaign was super annoying especially since it mentioned Sempoerna. Bloody hell, that’s more than 100km away from the proposed site!
I do not understand why you won’t let people from Sabah decide what we what for Sabah. In Sabah we sanjung the environment, so let us have it. We didn’t ask anything from you but to respect our wishes. Sudahlah even thot we have so much gas it goes elsewhere, so much petroleum, same story, no.1 producer of M’sian palm oil!! STOP EXPLOITING US.
Dear Vincent, SEMPORNA not Sempoerna is going to be AFFECTED la. We will have open coal barges coming from Kalimantan passing these waters. Baru-baru off Singapore PUN ada tanker crash. 1 incident habis la, it will affect the sea-gypsies livelihoods
Dear Lick-Boot Jane, WE HAVE ALTERNATIVES!! No need to believe us just go see here, PLENTY to prove it: http://bit.ly/aDGwx4 start with april got palm oil induustry also saying can do and got examples in peninsula m’sia.
by the way, danum is not a taman negara. we do not have perhilitan and danum’s caretakers ARE ALSO WORRIED about the coal plant which is 100kms away.
sincerely,
haji from sabah (let us decide)
agree with Haji. Let us in Sabah decide. and those who think we are barisan alternatif or whatever, do check your facts ya. we have our own land, wildlife and forestry laws. and sabah parks legislation too.
1. Okay dood. I am sorry I have crappy spelling and spelt a pack of Kretek instead.
2. As for coal barges and oil spills, are you worried about coal barges alone or are you worried about all ships spilling oil in general?
3. Biomass is clean? Do you even know how a biomass plant works? Do you want zero pollution at all or is some level of pollution tolerable?
4. The Berkeley study was written by a “Renewable and Appropriate Energy Lab” OF COURSE they are gonna tell you that biomass is clean and coal is the mother of all evil!
here’s what i think, u want power? U want development, then something has to give. Then do the research n offer feasible options. Engage the powers that be, n if they dun respond to ur plea for engagement, then by all means, complain all u want .
Right now this is turning into a we dun want coal no matter wat… N hardly any proper research is done to explore the other options, like biomass, say you, and what they actually mean. Stating two varsity studies, fr utar n berkeley … Is really hardly ‘work’.
