Homelier and homelier

Huge confession.

I wasn't at all, a very healthy pregnant lady. My greatest sin during my pregnancy was this crazy, crazy craving for uncooked sashimi and whenever I had the tiniest chance, I would sneak in several slices of fresh, raw salmon. I had a total of 12 uncooked, oysters when I was pregnant as well - I counted because I thought it was safer to count and also, I thought that I could keep to a one-oyster-per-pregnant-month target, but obviously, I exceeded the limits.

I had half boiled eggs for breakfast. I think over 20 times. Ouch.

And I drank my dose of caffeine, about an average of 4 cups per week. In fact, the day I went into labour, I had my ration of freshly brewed ground coffee.

However, after Paul came and I started breastfeeding – the healthy eating kicked in. First, no coffee – I have a feeling that any caffeine will creep into the milk and I've decided that there'll be no caffeinated Mama's milk for my Paul. Then, no cabbage or broccoli – cabbage causes milk to diminish and in my case, I think broccoli has that same drastic effect. And then, the supplements: I'm still on Obimin Plus, 1200 mg of calcium and 1000 mg of Vitamin C. And I take home cooked food every single day, many thanks to my mother and mother in law (whoever I leave Paul with for the day when I'm at work.

Even at weekends, we make it a point to eat at home only. It started off with ultra simple dishes, like basil-fried omelette, a simple stir-fried vegetable dish and that never-be-wrong carrot-potato 'ABC' soup. And then we got sick of all that Chinese styled fare and last week, I tried out my first, full-fledged Kelantanese dinner set, with budu and ulam  and that throw-in Thai-styled stir-fried pork.

Look at the spreadI maid for the family!

Before that we had mienkam! Canggih… because I actually tapaued  this all the way from Kelantan. It costs only RM3 per pack here, in comparison to that hefty RM18 per plate appetizer dish they sell at pricey Thai restaurants here in the Klang Valley.  I'm really lucky that Eric loves Kelantanese and Thai fare as much as I do, so experimenting with Thai-dishes is highly encouraged in my house. ^_^

Mien Kam!

Alas, I'm walking the path of the homelier and homelier!
