Reviewing the Samsung Galaxy S (Part 1)
This is the first in a series of several that aims to dissect my take on the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S.
…
I'm going to start off by saying here in bold. I AM NO TECHIE.. I am merely your average nearly-30 year old new mother who works full time, who happens to, like everybody else, own a mobile phone. And on the phone, I do the usual few things:
- Talk to people
- SMS a lot
- Take photos, and sometimes, videos
- Go online occasionally
- Play with the games, sometimes.
Did I miss out on anything? Yup, I think that about sums up how I use a mobile phone. Nevertheless, the mobile phone is my most important, stand-by-me gadget, and I never go anywhere without it. Ever. CAN-DIE-IF-I-LEFT-THE-PHONE-AT-HOME. Kerja perlu, call hubby perlu, tengok gambar anak perlu. Yup, liddat.
So, based on the above, this is exactly how I'm going to treat the Samsung Galaxy S while it's with me. I'm going to see like how well it functions against my basic requirements of a phone (vis-a-vis the five items listed above).
…
Oh yah I have another personal preference for mobile phones. * MUST LOOK NICE WHEN I PUT IN THE BAG * If people ask me what phone I'm using, that also can, but these days the 'I have a cool looking phone' thing is not so much a priority anymore. However, like everybody on the #Maxis10 review programme, I have to agree.
The Samsung Galaxy S, or henceforth christened 'the GS'
… is sangat cantik dipandang. Nice to see.

Idle screen showcasing the apps I've put on the first page…

Plasticky back cover, but quite shiny.
I did a simple video explaining first feel of the GS and here it is. I've been having a cough since last Friday so my voice is sorta muffled but otherwise the video approximately sums up the bulk of what I want to say about the GS at first impression. The video was taken with a basic point-and-shoot digital camera, which will necessarily give me an opportunity to later compare this 'basic quality' sort of a vid against the videos imported directly from the GS.
In a next post I'll move on to finer details, speaking of how the GS fares against my basic-everyday-needs-in-a-handphone requirements.

Oh yah the price, i think it’s okay (expensive is relative to different perceptions). The recommended retail prize is RM2599, but if you sign up for one of Maxis’s plans the price starts from RM1699 (depending on which plan it comes up with).
Despite the iPhone-lookalike tendency, in many ways, the phone is cooler than the iPhone. Customizable fonts is one great plus!

you call this thin? you are showing us your phone apps instead of reviewing the phone. why we should buy a iphone look alike when we can get the real 1? just-another-iphone-replica and it cost the same as iphone.

Claire,
Good post! Here in the States, the Iphone4, Droid 2 and Droid X are getting tech media attention and of course any tech fan will follow reviews closely.
I believe Samsung sells the Galaxy S over here as the Galaxy Black. Why so many marketers change product names when items are sold in the U.S.A has always mystified me.
Now you have to take some photos of Paul with the built in camera.

Well #7 anon. Im in the US and I just bought this phone.
a few reasons,
1 the iphone is a poor excuse of a normal ipod. Low storage.
2 no sd card storage
3 I personaly love the android OS
4 for me T-moble has better rates, there is no unlimited plan with at&t
5 no insurance with at&t WTF!
So yeah. Thats why for starters. I could go on and on about the galaxy s and how good it is but just read the review :p
